Get through the Caribbean Restaurant celebration

The kids had a great time, the guests had a great time, it was very fun. I have a checklist for next time (which will be end of Feb.). While there are lots of things I’d like to do to fortify this program language-wise, it was memorable and great PR for the Spanish language program at our school.

I have to go pick up thank-you flowers and the cake and plantain chips right now. Then, tomorrow morning I need to move some decorations from my room to the cafeteria, and also make sure I leave a cart in the office before school. Otherwise, it’s just a matter of DOING IT. Woo!! Once this one is done, it will only be a matter of recreating it in the future – not inventing it from scratch like this one.

I decided it would be a worthy endeavor to have my second and third grade groups work toward being able to order and serve in a simulated Caribbean restaurant. Well, my first one is coming up and I still don’t know if I’ll be able to get one of the foods and don’t yet have enough parent volunteers to help set up. I will get on the phone (people usually can’t turn down a personal invitation) but it will still be some time calling. It’s happening a week from tomorrow!! Each of the groups only has one or two class sessions left to practice. It could have been so much more that it will be, but for the first try, I think it will come out ok. Next semester will be a lot better because of all I’ve learned this time around. I still need to decide how I will select my “servers.” We will make it through!!!!
