done...for now 17 months ago

There`s a good run of these on Flickr now, and I`m giving it a break. I`ll come back to it another day, though I feel that I can say the goal has been completed.

I need to work large again.

It`s a long time since i`ve felt so happy with a project.

This one seem to have all the right ingredients for success- the ritght balance of novelty/ commerciality/ genuine intereset / tradition.

I can see it selling well.

Exhibition coming in April/May.

I`m working on a series of small psictures of the sea. I am very optomistic about these, as they form a good, self-sufficient “collection”.

I`m going to finish painting the pictures in about 2 weeks, then try to show them in other locations.

Postcards from Floripa 18 months ago

I have begun a series of paintings on small pieces of card, which I’m showing on Flickr and other sites.

These have been going very well. I feel that I have finally found an idiom which is a response to Brazil. Previously, I hade merely been using the same style as I had in the UK.

And the small size means that the works can easily be scanned for display, and can be sent by post to collectors.

It also means that there is less risk involved with working on them. Working on large canvases can feel constricting, because it takes much longer to make corrections, and consequently I tend to act more conservatively.

Another thing I’m happy about is painting on cardboard. I had not really realised how unpleasant the surfaces of acryllic primed canvases are- the way the paint slides over the surface is oddly nasty- artificial…

The results vary of course, but I am happy with a good number.
