paint job nearly done. 14 months ago

Last night, bf gave the boiler closet door a very good paint job.
We also used up paint in our trays to give the inner frame of the bathroom door its first layer.

G4b again 14 months ago

I scrubbed and scrubbed! I think the tile grout is just about as clean as it’s ever going to get without repainting it.
I’ve also spent the majority of the eveing on a ladder in the bathroom, cleaning the tiles bf couldn’t reach without stepping on something other than the toilet…
I also cleaned the inside of the bathroom door and the outside door of the boiler closet in the shower with sugar soap. So the bathroom is just about ready to receive its paint job (ceiling and doors).

Tile grout. It’s discoloured, here and there. Henna and whatnot. So I’ve given some of the stains a scrub, which needs repeating. But we are getting there.

Done!!! (G3, that is...) 18 months ago

After another evening of bickering and holding up metal bits against walls with spirit levels and drilling holes into metal, plastic and brick wall, gesticulating vividly at Dutch installation guidelines and nearly breaking up over drilling three holes into tiles 2cm next to where they were needed (my bad!!!), we finally managed to attach the door. It slides, it’s fairly straight even though the walls left and right aren’t, and it’s finished.
Bf has already “tried it out”. His verdict: Seems to function after primary use.
Woohoo!

Slapstick 18 months ago

Imagine: you are hearing fast 20’s piano music and then watching two people in a living room who are trying to assemble a sliding 3-part-shower door, preferrably in Chaplinesque black-and white, slightly too fast.
The two people are walking from one end of the room to the other, banging something here, sawing off something there, turning parts over in all directions, assembling and taking apart the sliding rails from one of the door parts, scratching their heads, shaking their fists at the world in general, holding the instructions together and pointing at them vividly…
At a quarter past 10, I gave up for the night and decided to watch a movie instead. Tonight, I hope we’ll figure it out and install the damn thing.

Shower door investigation - 2 18 months ago

Here’s what it would sort of look like having a three-part sliding door installed. If there was no glas which I can’t simulate with Paint.
In the two DYI stores we visited, we found only one (!) door which would fit. Unfortunately, the “glas” has the “water drop” pattern I can’t stand, but then, it’s better than an ugly unhygienic curtain. So we’ll probably get that on Monday evening and get working on the bathroom again.

Shower door investigation - 1 18 months ago

Today, we were looking for a three-part sliding shower door to install in our bathroom.
Unfortunately, there is not much room for a standard width door, which is apparently something around 90 cm width. We have only 82 to play with. On the left side in the shower is the access door to the central heating unit which is closed with a normal door. So the shoer door can’t swing into tghe shower area, or it will collide with the door on the left. Right in front of the shower is the toilet, which means the door can’t swing out, or it will bang into the ceramics. So a sliding door is the only option.

G 1 + G 2 crossed off already! 18 months ago

OK, buying them and getting them delivered was easier than assembling them, but we did it all since Friday evening.
A big fear for me was drilling holes into the bathroom tiles without cracking them, but bf was very gentle and careful, so there were no tears. The mirror cabinet and towel rack look great, and as with the wardrobe in the bedroom, I am wondering why the hell we didn’t buy all of these things 4 years ago?!?
Anyway, I am happy we are definitely moving into the right direction.

G1 + G2 update 18 months ago

Last night we went to IKEA and decided on the bathroom mirror cabinet and which towel racks to buy.
Unfortunately, the cabinet was too heavy to buy and take home, so when we return to buy the wardrobe we want, we will have them both delivered together.
