    Treadmill 21 months ago

    A couple of days ago I ran a couple of miles on the treadmill. It felt a lot easier than it did before when I ran on the treadmill a week or so ago. Good stuff.



    Drizzly run 22 months ago

    It was slightly drizzly but warm today, so I went running after my afternoon class. I ran just over 3 miles. I thought about doing my 5 mile route, but decided that was a little too much just yet. I don’t want to burn out just as I am getting into the groove of running again. The run today felt pretty good, and my pace wasn’t too bad (I estimate around 10-11 min/mile, although I should start doing a better job of keeping track of that). It was a good run, and I found that the day of not running (yesterday) between runs is helpful both as I get back on track and in the future when I am running more steadily. Sometimes my body needs a day to recover, and that’s okay.

    Ran outside for the second time. I did 2.5 miles, kind of slow, but it felt good. I wanted to keep it moderate and not overdo it.



    Outside running 22 months ago

    I went running outside for the first time since getting back to school two weeks ago. The running outside part was good, the running part was a little exhausting, especially towards the end. Part of that is because I did a pretty hard elliptical workout yesterday, and part of that is I have lost some of my running fitness by decreased running these past few weeks. I think the route I did today was about 3 miles. I did not want to overdo it my first time out in a while.



    Treadmill running 22 months ago

    It has been very cold out lately, so I have wanted to avoid running outside. Instead, this past week I ran on the treadmill twice, the first time for 25 minutes and the second for about 15-20 minutes followed by 20 minutes on the elliptical machine. They were not long workouts, but that was what I wanted to ease myself into a more regular exercise pattern. I’m aiming for frequency rather than intensity, as I think that is better for me to focus on right now.

    I don’t like running on the treadmill nearly as much as running outside, which is good and bad. It is bad because it makes for a monotonous workout, but it is good in that it makes me run better when I do run outside. I’ve noticed a big difference in the past when I have transitioned from treadmill running to outdoor—3 miles on the treadmill seems like so much more work than 3 miles outdoors. So there is that benefit to treadmill running.

    I hope to run on the treadmill 3x next week.



    Quality vs. quantity 23 months ago

    What I often do is run a decent distance (4-5 miles) but only a couple of times a week at the most. I’d rather run more frequently; I think that would be a good fitness goal. Ultimately, I’d like to be running 4-5 miles 4-5x a week. Sounds like another Thing.
