The reality of the situation is that I can not, and I will not, sit in an office cubicle doing the same thing for the rest of my life. I need a career that is going to be excited to me and give me a creative outlet. I thought 2 years ago when I graduated with my degree in Public Relations that, that would do it, but it hasn’t. I remember when I was at my internship and they asked me to design their ads and other event and print materials, I was so happy and excited. I spent hours, maybe days, perfecting the images and when I was done, they were pleased with the results. I know there is alot of things I can learn as far as graphic design, but right now, I have to take baby steps. I am going to enroll into a Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign class and work up from there, hopefully, maybe going back to school and getting an AA degree or BA degree in Graphic Design. I am only 24, so I have plently of time to accomplish my dreams.
How to become a graphic designer
How I did it: I had a lending hand and a running start. I started showing my portfolio at a young age to many design studios. At that stage it only consisted of hand sketches and ink drawings done in my spare time (instead of homework).
One studio took an interest at my work after I finished school at which stage I was pretty self savy in Photoshop and Illustrator which was a good little bonus. But at first... none of that mattered though, as I started at the bottom of the food chain.
First off I was a signwriter for a year or two and years later I became more mature in my attitude towards work and the level of creativity I had to offer. Not too long and I found myself working in an awesome little design studio with great people.
Lessons & tips: Perseverance and determination is the key to any career goal! Never give up, and strive towards your goal no matter what!!
Resources: Having a course of some sort is always held in high regard with this sort of career... well with any career I guess.
Sheer skill can only get your foot so far into the door. It's just that stupid little piece of paper that says you can that swings it open :)

I’ve started taking classes now; hopefully it will help me reach this goal! :) I also plan to push myself to do independent projects and reading.
tashfofash got a second job!
i want to become a graphic designer after graduating from college.
I am currently studying a diploma in Graphic Design so hoping this dream will come true!
Ive wanted to become a graphic designer only recently now—3 years or so. I’m going to the university for that now. I did start going to college emphasizing in Painting/Drawing but I figured this career is more practical… at least with a bachelor’s degree.
It’s been stressful so far; got held back a year so I’m repeating two classes. I’ve had some horrible occurances with employers and interviews and such. But I’m in to deep to turn back now.
And if anything, I do have more of an appreciation for the art of graphic design… may even want to start my own business in the future 10 years from now.
And the best part of this goal is all I have to do is go to school and do what my teachers tell me (better this year than last year so I’m not held back again). Should be easy in theory at least.
I dont want to sound arrogant or anything, but I feel that I have an abundant amount of talent. I WIIL become a graphic designer. I dont have to be rich or fmaous I just want people to love my work.
retroraj raj spends alot of time on facebook.....
I’m going to college next year to study graphics design and I’m really excited, but its something i’ve decided to do totally by myself (family are not keen on it)and sometimes i feel like I’m on my own and doubting myself :S
Does everyone really enjoy being a graphics designer? :)

vajapanties is working on being a better boyfriend by staying home with wifey.
I’ve always like the graphic arts but it seems as if this is where my life is heading. I find joy and satisfaction working and playing with anything that requires artistic expression. I know that there are the downfall as with any career, but i will probably start school next semester part time as i have a son and a woman to take care of! lol
