How to re-pot my plants

How I did it: I've had Petey the Peace Lily for about 8 years now. He's been repotted and divided up a few times. First, I evaluate the size of Petey. He usually needs to be divided between 2 pots and since I had two separate Peteys I bought 3 new pots. Then I bought potting soil. I waited for a sunny day and took Petey outside, transferred him from his 2 old pots to the wheelbarrow, and shook him out into 3 equal sized plants. I put some of the older soil in the bottom of each pot, then put each Petey in and held him at about the height he should be (a few inches below the rim of the new pot) and began filling in soil around him until he was secure. Rinse and Repeat. I took extra special care of him for the first few days just to make sure everything went well. He's all sorts of happy in his new pots. And now I can give 1 Petey as a gift :) Lessons & tips: As soon as you feel that your plants should be transferred and given new soil, just do it. It takes hardly any time or money. |

How I did it: Figured out how many plants I needed to repot and what size pots and dishes I needed. Found a local organic nursery. Went, bought a few more plants, bought a large bag of organic soil, and double checked with a clerk to make sure I had enough. Endrina - crap rarely falls from clear skies
I repotted our little palm tree on Saturday, and now need to buy more earth and pots to do the last 3 before the frost comes (well, I guess I’m too late for that – before they actually die). I really should get the aloe vera over in a better pot…it looks so miserable.

and the plants on the balcony will soon suffer from night frost. I really have to get this one done soon, but keep putting it off because it is raining, I can’t be bothered etc. Am I unconsciously trying to kill my little green ones?

I moved the variegated lemon thyme from a container to a newly established above ground bed this weekend, and repotted a spider plant as well.
I still need to:
1) add soil to the Norfolk Pine
2) consolidate the begonias to a single pot
3) repot a few more spider plants – perhaps in one large, massed planting
4) repot the creeping jasmine topiary

Things I need:
- 4-5 pots (two large, one med, one small for gerber, one small for orchid)
- Soil (whole foods- organic compost, worm fertilizer)
Ikea had a lot of plants the last time I was there. Maybe I’ll add a philodendron :)

So i’ve had Petey the peace lily for 7 years now. he’s gone everywhere with me. its kinda weird to have a relationship with your plant but sometimes i feel like Petey is very comforting and that i understand him. he’s been split a few times so there are many little Peteys out there. it’s that time…. time for a few new Peteys. Just gotta buy a few pots and some soil
