Tomorrow’s my surgery. I’m straightening up my apartment and stocking the kitchen with food. I’m not nervous; I just want to get it over with. Wish me luck!
How I did it: It's been a long time coming but I finally had the surgery to fix my bunion. I exhausted all the conservative options: custom insoles, wearing flats and shoes with larger toe boxes. I had had ACL reconstructive surgery seven years ago, and it was torture; so I was apprehensive about this surgery. I actually put off this surgery for three years. I've been trying to get back into the athletic lifestyle I was accustomed to prior to my injuries, but it seemed to aggravate the bunion. I knew time had caught up with me. I called my podiatrist and set up an appointment to talk about surgery.

My surgery is scheduled for this Friday. I went to the doctor’s office today to do some paper work. He gave me the prescriptions (that will hinder pain and swelling) to fill prior to the the operation. He wrote me prescriptions for Codeine, Naproxen and Bactrim. I was a little alarmed by the amount of Codeine tablets in the bottle. I started thinking ” Am I going to be in that much pain?”

I went to the doctor today and my surgery is scheduled for next Friday. I’m going to go back on Monday to fill out paper work, talk in depth with the doctor and do prep for the surgery. They are saying that it will take three months total to recover, but I’m up to the challenge.

I have avoided foot surgery for about two years now. I’m a little scared about the pain. I had ACL reconstructive surgery some years ago and didn’t receive the proper pain management.
Inherited from my mother, though I only got it on one foot unlike her with both feet. Painful and ugly, I look forward to the day its gone!
