Last night I wasted 3 hours of my life watching the demise of John Cusack’s career. Ladies and gentlemen, 2012 was the biggest pile of shit to hit the screens this year, second only to Twilight: New Moon. Mind you, I wasn’t expecting anything from this movie other than a good mindless romp, but it wasn’t even that. It was just pure utter organic manuer. I know JC only did this so he can finance his indie films, and I give him credit for that, but surely he could’ve picked something thoughtless AND entertaining. sigh At least it wasn’t a Renny Harlin film.

My partner and I caught the new A Christmas Carol interpretation last night starring Jim Carrey as pretty much every character. My beloved, God help him, was not familiar with the story prior to seeing this. I guess growing up in South Africa you don’t have the exposure to a lot of the things we do in the Western World. Europe and America is rooted in tradition, especially around Christmas time, which I guess never made it as far as the Southern Hemisphere.
Anyway, I enjoyed this film a lot. The animation was gorgeous and bordered on the creepy. The Ghost of Things Yet to Come was damned scary. I suppose that’s how Dickens intended it to be. I even shed a tear over Tiny Tim. I don’t know if this will please everyone who is used to the Albert Finney Scrooge and the likes, but it should be fun for the kiddies, if not a bit bed-wetting!

Saw UP over the weekend. What can I say? I’m a sucker for animated crap. This was such a great film. Really funny and sweet and sad in some parts. Every time I try to hate Disney they put out something that makes it impossible for me to.

I was considering getting a movie pass from Cineworld, but I’m not sure how often I’ll use it. I don’t want to get stuck into another contract.
Watched Dorian Gray over the weekend. It’s gotten bad reviews but I really enjoyed it. I love the way it was filmed, with that Gothic cinematography that deepens colours and sets atmospheres. I thought Ben Barnes suited this role. Even though I hated him as Prince Caspian, he made a gorgeous Dorian.
My only complaint was the portrait itself, the centerpiece of the whole film – it was corny, not nearly frightening enough. It added humour more than anything. Someone described it as looking like Max Wall! Too right.

I really do love the cinema, but it’s always a drag getting there. Not because it’s far (it’s just up the street), but because I always have this trepidation about handing over two hours of my life and £7 to what could potentially be a crap film. That’s why I’m not one of these people who go on a weekly basis. I have pretty good judgement, though, and with the exception of “Drag Me To Hell” I’ve been seeing a lot of good flicks lately.
The cinema experience is great. It takes me back to childhood; the smell of popcorn and nachos, the huge screen blaring at you, the trailers, and the goosebumps I get up my arm when the opening credits appear. It still fascinates me after all these years. It’s something I need to do more often. After all, even though ticket prices have soared in the last 20 years, it’s still cheap entertainment.
Teh last film I saw was Inglorious Basterds. It was typical Tarantino; great dialogue, slow development that always ends in a bang at the end of each scene, and just enough humour to make light of a tragedy. He’s not lost his touch.

I saw Sunshine in April and Spiderman 3 in May, both with my good buddy Pete at Ipswich Cineworld. Must go more often!! I don’t think there’s anything on that I want to see atm, though.

Both myself and my fiance have Cineworld passes which only cost us 11 quid each a month and for those who don’t know what these are; they allow you to go to any cineworld cinema as often as you like, and yet it’s been months since we last went. We have been really busy and I suffer from M.E. but the bottom line is that we’re just a little bit lazy! I think it’s so easy to get sucked into a routine of staying home to watch a movie or play some videogames rather than take the time to go out. So as of now it’s time to get up off my behind and go watch some movies.

We have an excellent stereo and tv at home, and if you include snacks, a trip for two to the movies is like $35 bucks per film these days.
While it is fun to go to the cinema, we can hire a dvd and make our own popcorn for alot less.
We still go to the movies for the big action films, when we’re previewing a movie for our Scouts, and with friends. Thats about it.

Happily the new cinema has a special offer, every tuesday tickets are only £4! However this week there isn’t anything I want to see even at that price. I feel that the lack of good films, I actually want to see, is the only thing that will prevent me from completing this goal. Hopefully next week will be better!

I see a different movie almost every weekend and on some weekends, I might even see two. Especially if it’s hot and sticky out. Do I have a problem? Yes, yes I very well may.
