conversation with a business consultant guy the other day about what I’d really like to be doing with my time. That, for me, is about photography.
Digital photography seems so overwhelming to me. So much information to learn that I feel overloaded some times.
Want to set up steps for how to Master my camera better.

Been hanging out with a guy on my project team who knows tons about digital SLRs. He’s been teaching me loads of stuff about how to use my camera!
Great stuff!

Got a canon 40D a few weeks ago and love it. Have spent a couple days shooting and really enjoy it.
Spent some time with a friend that’s a digital camera wiz. He taught me tons of stuff….

My wife spun fire Sunday night and I took pictures. On the positive side, I’ve got good ideas for the apeture and shutter speed I should be using for the pictures. Unfortunately the focus was off on several of the pictures. It seems as this might be a shortcoming of the camera. It appears that you cannot turn off auto focus and the auto focus seems to have problems at night when someone is spinning fire around.
I’ve included an example of the shots. This is one where I didn’t let the flash go. My wife doesn’t like her picture posted on the web, so this shot doesn’t really show her.

I got used to the camera on the trip to Peru and got some good photos when I was there. The last thing I really need to do is to figure out what sort of exposures I need to use to photography my wife when she is spinning fire. I’m not sure when we’ll work on this one, but I know we’ll do it well before Burning Man.

I think I’ve got a better handle on how to take better pictures with the camera. It will really have to wait until I can get outside and take some pictures during the light of day.
I’m afraid the camera I got (Kodak z650) doesn’t have nearly as many settings as cameras I’ve used in the past. We’ll have to see how well it does over time. I’ll be able to get better pictures than with our old camera simply because the zoom lens will allow me to frame my subject matter better and I can also control shutter speed or apeture on this camera where I couldn’t do that on the old one.

We bought a new camera for our trip to Macchu Picchu and I need to learn how to use it. I’m not that happy with the way it takes pictures in auto mode, so I want to learn to use the more manual modes. I’ll also learn how to set up the auto mode so that it works better so that I can still auto mode.
