All it took was a three day weekend, a trip to the library and some spare time!
We have the story line mapped out, and were even able to expand our vision to include the future stories. We’re looking at a trilogy at this point, with other books stretching out to expand on those. This is of course all in the way way future, but being prepared for the possibilities is important! I’ve always been a big thinker.
We rented two “How to” books on science fiction and fantasy writing (one written by Orson Scott Card!) and started reading those.
Hurray. I feel wonderful!

Tommy is so awesome.
We’ve sat down a couple of times now and thought this over, and we have a story line! It was kind of ironic how it came about… My brother in law is another DnD fan, and whenever he and Tommy are together (and I do mean whenever, as my sister complains rather vocally about it, too!) they are talking shop.
They worked out a campaign using Tommy and I’s setting, and in passing, Tommy remarks “that wouldn’t make a bad story.” M says “you have my permission to write it.”
Tommy had a cast of characters laid out and everything, and when he mentioned it to me, I said “why don’t we just use the first set of characters?”
So that’s what we are doing. He’s replacing the rogue with my character (which works great coz I honestly couldn’t stand her; way waaaaay too stereotypical and… well… to put this delicately… slutty…)
We had to tweak a few other aspects of the adventuring group, but I only see them as improvements. The storyline is really good, with several ways for us to continue the it in future.
We have a few more details to iron out yet.
And his worldmap? It. is. epic.

Tommy just asked me if I still wanted to collaborate on him with this and I emphatically said “YES! yes, I do!” I told him it’s even one of my goals on here (as we were talking about 43things today.)
So… yay. (:

I thought by NOW we’d have a basic storyline at least laid out! Instead we don’t even have our characters planned!
But hey, he’s been working A LOT (“slaving away” comes to mind) on the world and I understand a solid world concept will only makes things easier on us as aspiring authors.
We do talk a lot about the technology, the history and the cultures of our world setting. Scientific topics pop up frequently. “Could there be more than two moons? Could there be a world on a moon? How would that work…?” Tommy has a niiiiiiice map, too.
However… although we haven’t done this yet, the other night we laid in bed and talked and talked and talked about a story idea that I have. It’s been in my head since I was about seven months pregnant, and since our chat, I have a better picture of it in my head.
One way or another, we will figure out our storyline for the LOA book! (It just might take a bit longer!)

It just seems like each time we go to, we get sidetracked or just start chatting and all of our brainstorming is forgotten.
He’s got his own story going at the moment, though, and he’s asked me to read it and give him my opinion.
So no rush, I suppose, it’s just that since I added this – what, back in January? – no progress has been made at all!
