Cleaned the fish bowl last night! But I’m not gonna consider myself done with this goal until I get into the habit of cleaning it regularly.
How I did it: I took a sample of the aquarium water to my local pet store and asked them to test it for chloramine and nitrates. The water got a clean bill of health, but I did buy stress coat products to treat the water. Maybe I'm a sucker, but I had had a major fish die-off and wanted to be extra sure to avoid that in the future. I emptied half the tank, stirred up the gravel and vacuumed out the waste. I added fresh water, treated it and ran the fil… Read how I did it…

I did the beta bowl and the big tank all in one go. Man am I exhausted. :P I still vouch that the sucker fish did most of the work on the big tank. ^.~

I know it’s a cop out, but we bought a sucker fish so now we only have to do the gravel. Let someone else do half the job! We named him Jack after Jack the Ripper because the last time we got a new fish it killed everyone. We’re not hoping for a replay, just expecting it. Anyway… I’ll update when I clean out the fish tank. :P

but it’s done! I replaced the filter, aerator tubing, gravel, and plants. Also changed some of the water and scraped all the algae off the glass. The tank used to be so drab and ugly. After the extensive cleaning, it looks pretty and bright. Now I must buy new fish!

I added some algae killer to the water but it’s going to take more than that to get the tank looking good. Right now the plan is to replace the gravel with a prettier color (I’m thinking red) and also replace the plants. I suspect the filter is not working properly so I will need to check that out before I start decorating the tank or adding new fish.
My bf and I worked as a team and got it done fairly fast. He sucked out the gunk and fixed the air bubbler, I aranged the decorative items and filled the tank back up. I’ll post a pic when we get our desktop pc back from being fixed.
suppossed to clean it once a month. suck up the gunk with a tube refil add the water conditioner and rearrange the decorative items.
Procrastination took its toll on the algae level but its all shiney now! big relief filled sigh Pretty fish!
