improve my guitar playing skills

I’ve been playing guitar for 12 years. I started out learning how to play open chords and eventually barre chords. That has given me the skill to play alot of rhythms to alot of songs. I eventually joined a band and had to learn some leads to cover songs, most werent difficult. The band im in now however has only original songs and i have the freedom of creating the solos on the songs where i play lead. I however play leads like someone whos been playing guitar for barely a year. I need to diversify my skills, learn more than just the pentatonic minor/major/blues scale, and increase my speed at which i can pick/play and eventually even sweep pick.

Have you ever herd of some one that can solo but can’t strum!
