sort out the financial year 2007

Before our trip to Germany last week, I sorted all the papers, and now everything is in proper folders. Phew.

The front room is a mess. It’s piles and piles of “sorted” papers, but I don’t have a filing system that works. All year, every paper gets dumped on the same pile and once a year I sort them. First by sender (insurance, work, bank, phone, energy etc.), then each pile chronologically. Then I put them all in different plastic folders and go see Magic Marga, my tax lady.
Still have to make an appointment, but that won’t help unless I have figured out how much I spent on the pill last year, how much our spectacles and that thermometer were, how much I paid for dental that wasn’t refunded (all of that is deductable) and what my exact bank balance was on 01-JAN-08. I hate this stuff.
So I shall venture on tomorrow, I guess.
At least I tackled the big pile. Somehow, I don’t feel like I’ve accomplished much.

We received the statement for 2007 from bf’s employer.
There will be a tax refund!

...the only thing missing before I can go to my tax lady is the statement from bf’s employer last year. So I rang them yesterday and asked them to send us the friggin’ thing.
They said it should arrive this week. If not, I’ll just ring that HR chick again.
I still have to sort out the mountain of official papers which is looming. Maybe tonight?
