I almost did this once at Kitty Hawk, NC. You could go tandem with someone on a couple trips across the dunes. I was 16, poor, and it cost $60 to (as I understood it) skim across the dunes. To a poor 16-year-old, it hardly seemed worth it. Now that $60 doesn’t seem like as much, maybe I’ll do it just to say I did.

I was very close to hang gliding yesterday. It was available at the sand park and someone asked if I wanted to hang glide. I told them I was interested… but we never got around to it. Well, at least I got to watch how it was done. And maybe I’ll come back in the future.

This is such a huge long-term dream for me that I’ll definitely go through with it, just not very quickly… I’ve dreamed about it since I was a kid, esentially. And not just tandem flights, but really learning to fly myself.
I’ll definitely do it winter/spring 2010. I’ll have the time and the money then.

Maybe in spring 2010? Then I’d have the time and the money. This spring, not a chance.

And because of a back injury about 10 years ago I cannot skydive. So hang gliding is where its gonna have to be at.

Hang gliding sounds amazing!
I want to fly…without all of the planes and silly stuff. I want to just be free and happy with the wind in my face and the Earth below me.

I’m sure I’m whatever thousands of dollars away from this goal and right now it’s just a pipe dream but I started thinking about it again. I have a goal that I want to skydive and I still do but some how that seemed like it might be short lived. I found myself wanting sustained flight. I want to soar and see the beauty.

I trained to be a commercial pilot after I completed high school and once finished, quit flying and eventually became a carpenter. I feel if you have an interest in flying then hang gliding is as close to pure flying as you can get. I have not tried it nor have I talked to anyone who has, but it seems to me that flying with no loud engine, no air traffic control, and no seat is really flying.

This sounds like a lot of fun and I think it would be a great time!
