It is amazing how fast your foreign language skills can deteriorate when you do not study. then again, from my experience, it is amazing how fast you can pick back up on a language that you have not spoken in years, when you begin to study it once again.

Well, I want to reach this goal because I have spent a lot of time and money over the years on trying to learn….meanwhile, it seems I lose what I learned in a short time frame (even a break inbetween semeaters) and need to relearn what I forgot each time…..so here’s to making french a part of my daily life…

Awesome! 2 years ago

As long as I’ve known how to speak, I’ve spoken two languages-English and Spanish. I can read, write, speak, and understand both very well. I believe being bilingual is one of the best things in the world. When I can’t express myself in one language, I do so in the other. It’s awesome. So I say, go for it!!!

I have started writing to a french girl as a penpal to help my skills. So far I am picking it up pretty fast.

it is so silly easy to be fluent in an another language. To have the second language as good as your mother tongue is harder as you need to start from the cradle (nearly). In Europe most of the people are fluent in two languages. In scandinavia people speak 2-3 languages at ease. In Finland for example they have finnish, swedish, english and perhaps german or french.

Advice to all who want to learn the second language: learn the grammar, learn 20 words a day and read stuff. Everyday. And one day you suprise yourself (and your friends) when you help a foreigner in the street asking direction.
