I did this two years ago when I was 16, definitely a nice a experience. It was a 5000m ALL OUT, so it was a bit funny to see on the board.
Hint : if you really want to make it a TRUE 5000m, do it alone or on your side of the lane ; following someone makes it way too easy.
Had to do 7000m ALL OUT this year, t’was funny hehe.
wasn’t worth it at the time, ‘cause I was pissed that my coach made me do it, but now that I look back on it, it was worth it. hard, but worth it.
It’s been about three years since I left my Masters group, but I’d love to find a group that does regular distance swims. Montreal swimmers, and global folks that just want to exchange swimming adventures and ideas!
So it’s been a while since I was in the pool (been living in a mud hut for a while), but now back at school, joining a swim club. Used to swim a mile 3 times a week, but starting off (very) slow right now. 800m twice last week, 1000m today and tomorrow, working my way up from there. I am surprised how weak my kick is at the moment. Keep getting awful charlie horses. But keepin’ on truckin’. :) It will all be worth it when I can run up to my 4th floor apartment without wheezing. :D
Getting closer, trying to do 1000m twice a week and 3000m once a week to increase stamina and make the 5000m a “swim in the park.” I just have to set my mind to it.
My longest swim ever was during a lap-a-thon in a summer camp in the US. Although it wasn’t stragiht (meaning I did take pauses), but I did swim 400 laps that day (4-5 hours). I don’t know the exact length of those laps, so I can’t say exactly how much I swam, but in my opinion it was about 8000m.
I recommend trying this – not so much for the stamina of it (although that’s also to be considered), but for the immense sense of accomplishment, and the consequent sense of self-esteem.
At the last check I could swim one mile—32 lengths of a commonwealth size pool. I intend to add at least two lengths to this every time I go swimming.
Since I plan on going swimming at least once a week I should be able to complete this goal within one year.
I will keep a log of my progress – including distance swam and time taken so that I can keep track of my progress.
At the same time I would like to complete my other goal of SCUBA diving
