On hold.
tangerine_now YAAAY!!!
... taking out the flute again. I did yesterday and within minutes I felt the cramp coming back to my cheeks. It really has been a long time. It will take some time before I get my tone back not to mention the dexterity in my fingers. The Bach etudes are still a long way to go.
Also I decided to do the guitar ‘lessons’ by imitating songs by ear. That way I can turn it into a kind of game, a personal challenge that I will enjoy more than repeating lessons with silly old folk songs that nobody really enjoys. I can look up the chords no trouble. Hey, maybe even some knowledge from university will stir up and get me to figure out chords on my own… Mmmm, maybe not.

my itunes shuffle threw up Bach’s flute etudes and I would love to be able to play them again.
Also that guitar goal keeps bugging me, I should be able to learn that! If only I would take the time and trouble, right? Right.
Last year I started DJing again with netlabel music. Many years ago I also produced some trax and still have most of the equipment, always hoping I would find the time do make my own music again.
the dearth of something was the death of my muse. Which thing?
Free time? Picking out rhythms and harmonies takes time. Good ones take talent, but even plebes like me can fill dead air with occasionally non-flightworthy tones.
Inspiration? But I got married. And we had kids. It’s easier for me to dedicate a song to someone than make one. I really can’t control the latter.
For the kids, it’s what I felt they needed when I first held them as newborns. Tyler needed to be soothed: even now he wrings himself too tightly, too often. So his song has lots of long notes that start high, slide low, and then climb back up to the beginning. Simple and soothing.
Our daughter Robin needed to be entertained: she surfs just about any choppy emotional water (except when bugs are present), and she’s always looking for new, interesting waves. So her song jumps all around pitch-wise. The intro and the rest of the song are completely different.
More than anything else, they know those sounds mean I’m around. Huzzah for that!
