I completed the Disney Half-Marathon in 2006. I have wanted to do another ever since. I injured my foot in 2008 (earlier this year), which sidelined me for most of the year. Now, I am expecting twins and have been on activity restriction. I would love to get back into running after my babies are here, and I would like to train for another half-marathon.

Ran my 2nd half marathon on Oct. 7th. It was a blast even though temps were unseasonably hot. Now I just enjoy the fall running (because I fufilled my secret goal which was to avoid injury after the race)
I started training for my next half marathon…the Rock and Roll half in Phoenix AZ in January 2008. I think the hardest part is just getting the miles in! It’s been over 2 years since I trained and ran any distance over 5 miles…so this will be interesting. But I’m ready. Let the fun begin!
I signed up! Granted it’s not a real half-marathon, but it’s a half! Nike.com is doing an online half-marathon on the day of the San Fran half and I signed up to do it with some friends, so even if I’m not really on a course, I’ll be running a half-marathon in October benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society :-)
Ran 5K today. Hadn’t done that in a while. It felt sooo good and I am working on increasing my speed too. Hopefully I can run one soon, maybe DC in May.
Two days later and my legs are still thawing out. Or maybe that’s the lactic acid slowly moving through them. But I did it – the Ottawa Hypothermic Half-Marathon. Yay!
In some ways it was better than my first half-marathon and in other ways not as good. I guess everything is like that. It was a smaller run than the National Capital Half. The OHHM was capped at only 300 people, and because it was a winter run almost all of those 300 people were of the more-elite-than-I-am variety. We did a loop through the Central Experimental Farm 4 times and lots of people were at least one loop faster than me. I don’t need to be a speed demon but it did feel discouraging to watch them go by. Yet, I kept within my target pace range and I finished this half-marathon almost five minutes faster than my first one back in the spring.
And get this – afterwards I did a four hour yin yoga workshop. I wasn’t sure if I was half-crazy in signing up for it a few weeks ago, but guess what – it was the perfect antidote for my pushed-to-the limit body!
Now what’s the next limit going to be?
and that would be a pulled sacrotuberous ligament. Who knew we had such a thing! But I was laid up all last week with no runs because of this thing. My chiropractor told me what it was after he put his magic fingers in a rather… shall we say, intimate place.
A few days later and I have managed one run, although I don’t know if it’s to my detriment or improvement. I have been propping myself in front of the television – actually between the television and G – in an attempt to get frequent butt rubs. We are approaching the Superbowl, you know, and I maneuver to get what I need! And of course, as much yoga as I can manage. I am debating adding another thing to my 43 things: 100 hours of yoga in 2007. Right now I will debate ANYTHING to get past this little bump.
running (?) out of time!
for the HHM in Ottawa on January 28th. I love the girls in my training class for keeping me motivated. I worry that I’ll only ever be in training when I sign up for a class – but right now it feels like the best money I’ve spent all fall. It’s keeping me sane!
I’m looking at the Hypothermic Half in January.
Hypothermic in Ottawa could mean anything…
But I did 15K last Saturday after a night of freezing rain.
Bring it on December!
elizabethmerchant loves to do lots of stuff
Yesterday I ran the OBX half marathon and there were several memorable moments. The most incredible part of this race is that it is the first long race of my life when I never stepped foot in a port a john. I looked long and hard on the internet to find a house to rent at the beach, as close to the start as possible. Well…when we got to the house, we realized we were pretty close and then when they set up the start, it was in our backyard. That’s right…when they called 5 minutes, I was still on my deck, sipping water and using my own flush toilet. The race was pretty well done for their first race, but since it was an out and back, the ride back to the start was a little rough. (There were still a lot of runners on the course and the traffic was bad.) Anyway, I had to go out and do 2 more miles afterwards to stay on track for the next marathon in February.
