The funny thing is 3 months ago

this goal would be completed if not for my procastinating hubby. I painted the crown molding over six months ago and hubby promptly moved it into the garage. Three months ago I pointed out that it was getting all dirty and so he wiped it down and moved it to the floor of our bedroom where it has been laying in a pile for the last three months. Pretty soon he won’t be able to use the excuse of mowing the grass and hopefully the crown molding will go up and I can mark this goal as done! :D

The painting is done! It’s a lovely robins egg blue with white trim.We were intimidated with the thought of installing tile ourselves so we hired professionals to do that and it’s great. The only thing left to do is to repaint the crown molding and put it back up and a cabinet needs to be centered and secured. I’m seeing light at the end of this tedious project.

This remodel is going very slowly. I tend to put off things that I really hate to do and this is definitely one of those things. Happily though the new tin ceiling is now up and today I am off to spackle holes and tears in the walls and go to buy paint. Woo Hoo!

Good Grief 13 months ago

After hours of spraying, scraping and scrubbing the “pop corn” off of the ceiling, all was looking good until I got to the very end. The stupid people who built this stupid house had pieced together and taped the sheet rock together. According to the guy at the paint store it will be impossible to smooth out the tattered sheet rock nor keep the rusty nails from eventually bleeding thru a paint job. Since this whole remodel started with the damn “popcorn”, I don’t want to reapply that mess. I am going to look into one of those cool tin ceilings, maybe that will work. I’ve never seen one in a bath and they are probably a bitch to install, but it’s worth investigating.

Can't put it off any longer 14 months ago

This bathroom has a popcorn ceiling, and no fan. Steam from continous showers (2 very clean teens share this bath) slowly started eating away in a circular fashion at the ceiling above the shower stall. We have tried to patch, but it does not adhere and ends up in the bathtub. My goal is to strip the ceiling to the dry wall and paint it. We also are facing off centered cabinets, linoleum that makes you dizzy to look at and a wall paper border, Oh and did I mention…. the previous owners painted the walls of this bath black. My kids liked it, but now it has to go, with no windows it is very claustrophobic. Off to strip.

Out of limbo---one down, three to go! 2 years ago

The bathroom is finished!
You know, its hard to believe how many decisions go into such a simple project…

One thing I noticed was that the things I had “seen” the most clearly have become a reality.
The projects that are “fuzzier” are still in limbo.

For example, the other bathrooms are still not done, in part because we don’t know exactly what we want to do with them.

Another example: we want to put in hardwood floors throughout the house, but haven’t determined what type, color, grade, etc- there are at least 4-5 decisions that go into simply selecting the wood—until we know what it will remain in limbo.

Bathroom Remodel 2 years ago

This was a hard, but rewarding project. It really needed updating.

whooooo hooooo!!!! 3 years ago

We picked out the tile and have been having tilers come over and do bids!
The tile is sort of a marble looking porcelain, with beautiful trim for the top, and even the little “ventanas” with litlle cared looking insets if we wanted them …>sighs happily<

When Randy finally gets his bonus, we may be able to get this done!!
I’d take pics, but my camera is on loan with a g/f in another state

We have a whole house that needs repair and rennovation after living here with 5 children, (3 autistic) for the last 5 years

Doors, floors, woodwork, landscaping, so many things need repair or replaced, but we’re starting with a few most neccessary: putting tile in the bathrooms!
WHO in their right mind wouldd put carpeting in a bathroom or a dining area?

ANyway Sara, with a little help from her brothers, ruined the carpets in the bathrooms in short order
so we have lived with subfloor that isn’t going to withstand the wear and tear and mess its assaulted with on daily basis.
So its off to the tile stores to find which tiles are best for the job…been putting it off for a long time now.

Major work needed. 3 years ago
