After a long ordeal, we lost Midget. There was a large memorial paddle out in San Clemente for him. (surfers paddle out beyond the surf, form a large circle and give eulogies)
He will be missed and I hope it’s always 6ft & glassy in surfer heaven.

Midget Smith has been my surf board shaper for over 20 years and is shining example of survival in the face of adversity. Just before I met Midget he had suffered through a nearly fatal bout of cancer. At that time he was able to go to City of Hope for treatment. With their help he was able to beat the cancer and has been in remission ever since.
Because of the fact that Midget had survived cancer, he was unable to get medical insurance that was affordable, and would cover him for a reoccurrence of cancer.
Now the cancer has returned, and unfortunately due our system of medical care in the US, he has to shoulder the burden himself.
As some of you may know, I had Midget shape a mini-surfboard for my grandson as a shower present. He did this and didn’t charge me for it. He said that we would work it out some other time.
Well now is the time. Please reach into your heart, put yourself in his place and then send him some healing energy.
And if you can, reach into your wallet to give something to help share his load of fighting for his life.
Thanks for helping
