I like my accent and don’t want to lose it. My hubby doesn’t want me to either as he seems to think it’s exotic! Living in the US and being surrounded by Americans makes it hard; I find myself saying things differently and using different words, just so I can be understood in a shop or bar or wherever. I also find my accent slipping a bit, but it’s hard to tell how much without an English point of reference.

I’m determined not to lose my accent. It’s part of who I am. I want my kids to know that Mummy and Daddy speak completely differently, and struggle to understand each other at times! I’ve lived in the US for a while now and have fought it pretty successfully. But I need this goal on my list as a reminder.

i like the way i speak. i don’t want to alter it when speaking to people who speak differently. i don’t want to talk to australians and try to sound like them or like something i’m not. i is what i is.
