My dream tour 4 years ago
    16 thousand miles.
    1. North along the West coast from San Francisco around the Olympic Peninsula, around Puget Sound (no ferries) through Olympia, Tacoma, Seattle, and onward.
    2. East along the top of Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, and Minnesota, as close to the Canadian border as the roads allow.
    3. Around the southern shores of Lake Superior through Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan to the end of the Upper Peninsula.
    4. Turning around and heading back to the west along the northern coast of Lake Michigan, through Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois.
    5. Heading around the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, on the lakeshores of Lake Michigan, Huron, St. Claire, and along Lakes Ontario and Erie through coastal Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York.
    6. Over the mountains through the top of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and to the tip-top of Maine.
    7. Southeast along the boundary to Eastport, Maine, then south along the eastern Seaboard—through Massachussetts (including the tip of Cape Cod), Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York (including the outline of Long Island), New Jersey to the tip and back toward Pennsylvania, coastal Delaware to the tip of the Eastern Shore of Virginia and back around (circumnavigation of Chesapeake Bay), DC, Virginia, the Outer Banks of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida down to Key West.
    8. Along the Gulf Coast through Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana to as close to the Mississippi Delta as possible, Texas to Brownsville.
    9. Up the Rio Grande River Valley through Texas and into New Mexico.
    10. Following the Mexican line as closely as possible through New Mexico, Arizona, and Southern California.
    11. Closing the loop heading north along the coast of California.

If I pulled 100 miles a day, I could probably do this in six months.
