In high school I was the girl who had a few very close friends but got along with everybody. Once my very close friends moved away and got on with their lives, I found myself without friends. I was an older student in college, so I didn’t make anything other than acquaintances there.
And at every job I’ve worked at, I’ve found the people that I work with to not be really “friend” material. I like talking to them at work, but I haven’t ever really wanted to do things outside of work with anyone.
Moving to D.C., I thought it would be easy to meet new friends. Boy, was I wrong. I quickly realized that people here are different from those in the Midwest, and to be honest, they aren’t very friendly. And they seem to not want to expand their circle of friends. So I’m frustrated. I love my husband and he’s my best friend, but I need to have some friends that are girls.
We’re hoping that when we move to Colorado we can both finally meet some nice people we’d like to hang out with. Who would know that it would be this hard?
and I’ve tried very hard to make new ones, but the history that I have with my friends from home just can’t be duplicated! My three friends from home I’ve known since elementary school….back when dinosaurs walked the earth…so how can I recreate that?
I know I can’t.
Ok, so the problem remains…I have zero friends here. I have “workmates” that I am friendly with while at work, but none of them want to hang out, go shopping or do lunch, or go to movies or play board games….
It could be the age difference. I am like 15 years younger than everyone I work with. And then there’s the fact that both women I work with are kinda large. Don’t get me wrong, they’re very nice people, and easy to talk to, but large women have a hard time walking, plus neither of them like to leave the house very often.
So, the problem still remains.
Where do I go to make friends?
