My friend and I purchased tickets today to attend ‘A Night in Fantasia 2009’ this Saturday at 6 p.m at Sydney Entertainment Centre in Darling Harbour. Eminence Symphony Orchestra will be performing and while the one-night-only concert is described as the ‘ultimate games and anime experience’, I don’t play games nor do I know half the animes from whose soundtracks the symphony will perform songs. What caught my eye was Steve Jablonsky’s name in the guest list and the fact that the night will feature music from Studio Ghibli films ‘Laputa, Castle in the Sky’ and ‘Princess Mononoke’. The music (composed by Joe Hisaishi) for these two films is breathtakingly beautiful. I can’t miss out on the opportunity to hear cues from these films performed live. Furthermore, Eminence Symphony Orchestra has been highly praised by countless previous attendees. I can’t wait!

still enjoy opera better though as the storyline keeps my full attention .. in symphony, my mind kept wondering (n almost dozed off at one slow boring point) .. but at times it can be superbly amazing where it takes u up to musical nirvana .. lesson learned: make sure a pianist is always involved!!! it’s so much better with one

So I went to the symphony last night…and was wonderful. Saw the Phoenix Symphony….conductor Jonan Carneiro(bloody hot chick). Heard (straight out of the program)...My favorite of the night was The Enchanted lake by Anatol Liadov. I do believe I’m going to make attending a concert at least twice a month a habit for me. Its just feels really good to go and listen.

Most recently I saw the Oregon Symphony perform Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. It took serious restraint not to flail my arms around like a virtual conductor (much as I do at home), especially when the cymbals come crashing into the finale and the energy of the piece is tangible – you can slice a chunk of it from the air around you, thick and pungent like aged cheese. Extraordinary…
My next symphonic goal is to hear/feel Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings…heartbreaking.

For a class assignment I needed to go to a concert. And since I’ve never been to a symphony and wanted to I thought the “Ode to Joy” Beethoven’s 9th symphony was perfect. I really liked it. I went with my mom. I got the nosebleed seats but the sound is the best up there anyway. I was uber special and brought my binoculars. Tacky yes but I like it too (says like woman from Irish Spring commercial). I heard a lady behind me say, “We should have brought binoculars. I felt like a smarty pants. The music was excellent. At first I thought they were going to play a different song but this one was good anyway. I thought it was the 5th symphony and not the 9th. Maybe when I get married (one of my goals) my hubby will treat me right and get us some really good seats.
