i am 42. i have been talking about going back to school for going on six years now. that makes me ill! i would have been finished with something, anything by now..had i not let fear and a few other demons that surround me sometimes get the better of me.

at any rate, i am ready to make some moves and although i truly want my law degree, i think it’ll have to be on the back burner until i get some other education i can use in order to obtain knowledge of enough of something so that i may become self reliant and no longer dependent.

i truly hate my situation and am now willing to take the appropriate actions to improve and better my life, any suggestions? all (except smart ass ones) are welcome!
thank you for your time in advance,
    carly

    English instead! 17 months ago

I know it’s flippant, but I decided I’d rather do English instead (Which was what I’d been planning for the last 10 years, Law was the flippant decision really.)

    Law Degree 18 months ago

This was my goal over twenty years ago, I accomplished it, and now I am leaving the practice of law, and realize that if I had it do over again, I never would have gotten the degree or gone into the practice of law! Not a regret as much as I am realizing that it didn’t provide me the satisfaction I thought it might when I first set the goal.

Not right now. 20 months ago

I’m going to have to put this on long term hold (at least till circumstances change.) I tried it for a couple of weeks and it really is too much to do a full time job and a part time degree, while trying to squeeze a life in there too.
I got a full refund because I cancelled within the first month, so no losses there – I’ll concentrate on my current career rather than looking to the next thing for a while

Making the decision 23 months ago

OK since gaining my teaching qualification, I’ve decided that was not the right direction for my life. I got a job working for Nottingham City Council, and in the last few weeks got promoted to “Court Liaison Officer” which I really enjoy. Basically preparing all the paperwork for hearings and evictions (for non paying tenants or anti-social behaviour) I find it amazingly interesting, so…....
I made the decision that I wanted to persue it further. I’ve been speaking to the lawyers telling them I want to get more involved and they are going to start taking me to court and yesterday I rang the open university about doing an LLB Law Degree in the evenings.
The deadline to start in February is 5th Jan, so I’ve got to make a quick decision! Because I already have a degree in Chemistry, I can transfer 120 credits onto this course, meaning I can do my law degree part-time over the next 3 or 4 years.
The fees aren’t that bad, especially because I’ll be working full time. And if I start going to court and learning what the lawyers do, it’ll be like double studying!!
I’m really excited about this, and teaching is definitely going to sit on the back burner for a while (in fact, I think it was always on the back burner – glad I tried it and realised I didn’t like it though)

Get a law degree. 2 years ago

I procrastinated all through life taking what I believed to be the easy way. I did get a master’s degree, but did not have the courage to tackle a law degree. Now I am representing myself, with an attorney as second, in my divorce. I find the process fascinating. I want to know more about the law and do criminal investigations for the Public Defender’s Office.

I found my career, in Internet Marketing. Maybe someday if the time is right, I’ll think about doing this again.
