Giving up soda years ago was certainly worth it. I lost 10 pounds even though I wasn’t fat to begin with. Soda has so many bad things in it, HFCS, sodium benzoate, benzene, etc etc etc. Giving it up was easy because I knew I was giving up something that was damaging to my health. You’re better off drinking water or tea.

How I did it: I just quit. I can't remember when exactly, but I remember as soon as I hit my teens, every time I drank anything fizzy, I felt sick. Particularly with food. I was completely put off. I would say I've given it up completely and have always preferred water or fruit juice, but on the occasion when I have had soda in the past few years, I'm often told that from the sugar rush I get insanely hyper and that I'm li… Read how I did it…
How I did it: Cold turkey. I was drinking a lot of soda. And my body was telling me - ENOUGH! By 2:00 I needed a nap, I was grouchy, not sleeping at night. I stopped and started drinking a glass of milk (good for the bones!), water and tea! (Skip the sweet tea!) I drink all kinds of organic herbal teas. 0 calories no sugar so better than the bottle water flavorings you can add. Plus you can get them … Read how I did it…

How I did it: I wanted to change one thing in my life and had no idea where to start. So, I took a look at everything in my life and decided that if I could take control over one thing that would help me get control over everything. So, I said I was I was not going to drink soda. And I opted for water instead. With everything! Even when I went out I drank water and saved money. In a month I dropped 30lbs and was happier. I now feel I can do anything!!!!! Read how I did it…
How I did it: Stopping cold turkey is really the only way if you are a big drinker. I used to drink 5 or 6 a day. I've started drinking a lot more water now. Read how I did it…

I am really addict, specially to coke. But I haven’t drink any soda for 8 days now. They say it takes 21 days, isn’t it? Let’s see how if I am able to behave the next days.
jess jess jess is so sleepy!
i had a soda last night when we went out to dinner for my mom’s birthday, but i think that was the last one, for a while at least.
I started drinking less and less soda as I started eating more healthy foods and became more focused on training for races. I think my friends influence, books I read (Michael Pollen, Eric Schlosser, Barabra Kingsolver, etc.) and a nutrition class I took made an a lasting impact. Before long I had completely stopped drinking soda and now even the thought of drinking any is unpleasant. Glad I made the decision, I really enjoy water, juices, herbal teas much more anyways.
Keeping a Nalgene with you helps.
I’ve cut back from 4+ a day to one a day right now. Slowly weaning myself off of it since that was my primary source of caffeine. Trying to substitute tea (gotta have a little caffeine) and lots and lots of water. So far, so good.
I’m so bad at this. Why am I so bad at this?
Is it possible that they never stopped putting cocaine in cola??
My soda addiction has been going on for years. I’ve been drinking it(and hardly anything else but it) since early childhood. My drug of choice, Dr. Pepper. I could really care less about any other soda. I use to be a hardcore Dr. Pepper fan, until last year I could drink up to four 21oz bottles a day. Sad I know. But like any addict, I never thought about changing until I hit my rock bottom. Which just so happened to be my bathroom scale after a long and gluttonous spring break. So I put my foot down and vowed to never drink again. And for a while it worked. I stopped drinking soda for almost 6 months. But as my senior year progressed and I started my new job, I found myself becoming more and more stressed. So I started drinking again, not as often as my early days, but enough for me to feel the sense of failure over myself control. So I’ve stopped again. I’ve been “sober” for a couple weeks now and it gets easier everyday. My goal is to only have one soda for every two weeks for an entire year.
Okay, clearly the only way this will work for me is to absolutely and totally stop forever. Last one was today April 14, 2009. My one exception will be my rum and cokes (which are more rum than coke).
And this time, I mean it ;)
xbulletkiss3 feels on top of the world!!
i slipped a few times but other than that i been drinking ALOT of water& been feeling a lot better because of it. :] i don’t crave soda much anymore and i keep reminding myself how bad it is for you anyway!
I liked soda just as much as anyone, but giving it up wasn’t a big deal for me, probably because I was never addicted to it and I’ve never been able to have more than a few sips before I’m sick of it. Occasionally I’ll have a soda—maybe once or twice a year or so, so in a sense I haven’t exactly “given it up”, per se—it just simply isn’t a part of my normal diet. :)
