Go back to tai chi

This is something that i’m not interested in doing at the moment, so i’m going to put it on the backburner for a while. At present, i’d be happy to get back into my meditation and exercise routines. Once i’ve done that I might reassess how I feel about this goal.

In my routine now 2 years ago

I now do a little Qi Kung before I start my music practice (which I do daily). It gets me in the right frame of mind. So now it is part of my routine I’m signing it off.

I have now got it back into ny routine 2 years ago

I am routinely doing some tai chi before my violin practice. Trouble is I am not doing this every day…and I should be. Watch this space….

I don't know if I can remember 3 years ago

I used to do this several years ago, but somehow I lapsed, and now I don’t think I can remember the form. The begining is OK, and I get so far and then it all goes a bit wrong.

Maybe I need to get a book or video or something to jog my memory…it must all still be in my head somewhere.

Anyway as a start I will begin all my violin practise sessions with a little Qi Kung to get me in the right frame of mind to concentrate on my playing.

Netflix 3 years ago

Just put a Tai Chi DVD at the top of my Netflix Queue. Hopefully it’ll have clear, for-beginners instructions as it’s been 6 years since my last Tai Chi class and I hardly remember any movements.

One step 3 years ago

I have the vhs tape of my favorite tai chi instructor, including the sword form.

now I need to force myself to set a time to regularly do this!

Though I’ve missed some days due to sheer exhaustion, I’m back to tai-chi. I’ve firmed up some; I have more strength in my legs and my arms; I’m more flexible and I have more stamina. I am very glad that I decided to do this.

I hope I can keep up with it at least four times a week… after I get my energy back. Right now I’m doing it as I’m able, still at least 10min or until I need to take a break.

It’s really helped me mentally and I think it’s made me healthier too.

15 Days or so 3 years ago

I’ve been on this regimen for about 15 days now, I think. Not sure, really as I’ve lost track.

I’ve missed one or two days, mainly because of bladder spasms and the lack of sleep due to same. However, I’m still doing 20 minutes every day if you sort of ignore those two days there.

I am still looking forward to the exercise; I still really enjoy it. I can start to see where I’m getting more in shape- especially about the arms and thighs (as well I should… ooof, those deep knee bends and floating arms  ). I’m getting ready to move on to some new moves. I’m a long way from the end of the form- I’m still not where I left off the first time I took it up as I’ve wanted to build stamina, not complete the lessons as quickly as possible.

So, I’m still doing very well on this goal. :D

Five Days In 3 years ago

Well, I’m 1/6 of the way to my goal of tai chi for 30 days.

I am looking forward to the time of the day when I do the exercise. I had forgotten how elegant this particular form makes one feel. It’s quite like a dance… a rather complicated one but a dance none-the-less.

I can’t say that I have more energy right now- but it’s only been 5 days. Pretty soon I’ll have to get out the tape and memorise another few moves. I’ve been taking it slow so I build up some strength and stamina- the floor moves are a bit much (deeeeeep knee bends, squat-like postures, and so forth).

Hopefully, this will make the winter more bearable.

A habit in 30 days 3 years ago

They say it takes 30 days to develop a habit, so I want to do this for 30 days in a row to see if it becomes habitual.

I need some gentle exercise like this, something that I can do on all but my worst days. I’ve acknowledged that belly dance usually makes even the slightest hint of pain I have worse, so I’m hoping that tai chi will not cause more pain.

I’ve done tai chi before- not an accepted style, I’m afraid- I do Mulan Quan Tai Chi along with my video tape. I was quite along in the form three years ago before I took up belly dance instead. Now I’m back to tai chi and I hope I can manage to stay with it.
