I did this on January 30th, but I’m only now getting around to writing it up. I mentioned Gandhi (who?) to my students and briefly explained his philosophies. This was all news to them, I hope the name and ideas stick with one or two of them.
I consider myself a pacifist, and strive to be the change I wish to see.
I admired his wisdom and gentle strength.
Not sure if anyone’s already posted this, if they have, here’s a bump. I think it’s a very nice site. http://www.mkgandhi.org/main.htm

As I am still trying to follow the 64 days and ways to practise non-violence and was on day 7(education), I googled to see if I could find someone different to learn about, instead of the usual suspects.
I found this teaching resource which has short biographies at the end. There is also a list of books for children around peace and non-violence.

I observed this by:
- Wearing a dohti
- Having an Indian curry
- Being timely inspired by one of Gandhi’s quotes

Non violence
Yesterday was a really hard day for me to practice Ahimsa for all the verval and office violence I was subject to. I will mark it as done since I was carefull to be excellent with my words, and did not voice complaints as rudely as I cuold have done, and was compassionate to those who did not attack me… I will mark it as done for this year.

ugogrl Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!!!!
sometime in February. I plan on visiting the Gandhi’s statue in Union Sq. Park & leave some flowers in his honor.
Yesterday, I tried to, practice patience, kindness and mindfulness but it was difficult with all the non-sense going on @ work.
I wished JJS a Happy Birthday. I practiced yoga. I said a prayer. I thought of Gandhi (I do regularly). I have a picture of Obama @ my desk and feel that Gandhi is alive and well in the 21th century vis-a-vis Pres. Obama. I try to be the change as much as I possibly can be.
I hope that counts.

me posting this here. Yesterday i read something that helped me finally feel what I have known for sometime. One day i will post it here.
I found this to post instead – one of the many legacies the world has as a result of Gandhi’s life and death.
“The 64 days between the assassination anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi (Jan 30th) and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (April 4th) were designated as the SEASON FOR NONVIOLENCE in Los Angeles in 1998. Each of the 64 days was linked to a “way” to practice active nonviolence.”
http://www.k-state.edu/womenscenter/64_ways_to_practice_nonviolence.htm
“Nonviolence begins by learning how to be less violent and more compassionate with ourselves. We learn by building the courage to speak and act with a respect, honor and reverence for our own being”
I am going to follow these 64 ways for the next 64 days – and beyond.

Gandhi on war

What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy?

If you don’t find God in the next person you meet, it is a waste of time looking for him further.

The outward freedom that we shall attain will only be in exact proportion to the inward freedom to which we may have grown at a given moment. And if this is a correct view of freedom, our chief energy must be concentrated on achieving reform from within.

When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it—always.
