Dukowitz is studying
my first promotion was back in 1982 and I still have that certificate. Karate has always been on my mind since the day I started but for various reasons I haven’t stuck with it long enough for any one stretch to be promoted past the ranks of green belt.
This is a very traditional style and once a year we have the master, Takayoshi Nagamine, come in from Okinawa, Japan to keep us in line with traditional teachings.
I like this style because nothing is given to anyone and each individual is ranked and promoted based on their abilities and not due to paying for a certain belt program.
This goal may have as much to do with finishing something I’ve started as much as any other reason.
After 25 years of off-again, on-again training I have developed skills in some areas (such as punching) that are on par with people of higher rank yet, in other area’s (remembering my kata’s, for example) I’m lacking.
Last September I did pay for an entire years worth of training in advance but was quickly sidelined by an injury which I’m still working through. If nothing else, maybe I should attend just to watch the classes if nothing else.
