DoctorTeeth says, "Oh Sky Cake, why are you so delicious?"
Friday and Saturday night were amazing. The choir was in the choir loft, just behind the orchestra, and since I was put in the front row, there was only about ten feet away from the French Horn section. Our singing went off pretty well; I was pretty nervous, particularly for the Star Wars stuff because we had to sing forte (i.e. really loud) for two solid minutes. But I made only a couple of flubs, and the audience enjoye our pieces. The orchestra seemed to enjoy our work too, a few looked back and smiled at us after the songs. Although, they could have been smiling at the Stormtroopers, too.
That’s right, I said Stormtroopers. Because we were singing excerpts from John Williams’s Star Wars scores, the organizers of the conference wanted to make it as multi-media as possible. So they got people from the local Stormtroopers garrison to come out and stand there when the songs came on. The crowd ate it up, and it was cool to watch them come down the aisles through the crowd or out from the back to stand behind the choir.
There were many great moments; John Williams has written some really good music, and since I’m a bit of a geek a few of the selections really hit me. The best part was that I got to sit behind the orchestra when they played the Superman March. I gotta tell you; sitting there, right by the French Horns when they came in with the theme was amazing. I teared up a little. It was great, both as a musical experience and a learning experience, and I’d look forward to the opportunity to do another concert.
