It does not feel like to to get ready for Beltane. Wow. I need to do some serious decorating to get myself going!

    Spring 19 months ago

Most of my spring decorations are buried behind boxes in the basement and I can’t get to them yet. Hubby and I were supposed to work on the basement last week when he was on holidays from work but he was sick. :(

Anyway, I did manage to get out my spring broom today and hang it up…despite the fact that we got 6 inches of snow last night!!!

    Yeah! 20 months ago

the kids did something amazing (alarming?) with purple tulle and very brightly colored variegated yarn. Welcome Spring!

(OK, so it’s sleeting and there is a foot of snow left. Whatever.)

OK, Ostara is coming... 21 months ago

and I’ve convinced two friends to do a Pysanky (sp?) egg decorating workshop. Maybe I’ll have a lovely basket of decorated eggs in time for the holiday!

    Imbolc decorating 22 months ago

I have a nice set of placements and napkins for Imbolc that are white with silver snowflakes. This is the same fabric that I plan to incorporate into my winter bedsheets.

One of my books suggested placing an orange/yellow/gold candle in a bowl of snow to symbolize the warmth of the sun melting away winter’s chill. I will make this the centrepiece of my table for the Imbolc feast.

I need to give some thought to how I’d like to decorate the rest of the house for Imbolc. Of course, the winter decorations are up still (they go up for Yule and come down 2-3 weeks before Ostara.

Candles in every room would certainly be perfect to symbolize the returning light.

I saw a pattern somewhere for knitted toys that were sheep in various sizes. It would be fun to make a little flock of sheep for Imbolc. I also have some small cross-stitch sheep designs that could become dish towels or hand towels. And something cozy made out of soft wool, like slippers, a shawl, or an afghan would also be appropriate. I have seen a Brigid cable design as well as a candle flame knitting pattern—both would work well.

Maybe by next Imbolc I’ll have learned to spin and I can spin and dye some special yarn to make an Imbolc project.
