Well I used some heavily butchered mandarin, spanish, greek and gealic to give languages to the characters in the Nanowrimo story I did. They are differant languages for differant characters not mashed together. I may still make a full constructed language for that story, but I really want to try and make a true conlang.

does mathmatics count 22 months ago

pun was inadvertant but I like it anyway. I’m tinkering with some of my other goals and one is to relearn math in a way that works and sticks with me.

Well along the way I learned that sumerians had a base 60 mathmatics system… and my mind grabbed and ran with this.

See sumerians used cuniform, one of the earliest writing systems to basically keep track of trade goods. So math was with them from the beginning.

Well my mind grasped out and stumbled upon the idea of a base 7 mathmatics system. Based loosely one the triskel and aranged concentrically. It’s artistic if about as cumbersome as roman numerals. But it says some things about the fictional culture I might try to fit it to. It’s really quite beautiful in it’s own way.

For a story. 23 months ago

I have many works of fiction in various states of completion. Som of them could benefit from fictional languages.

With some understanding of english, very little japanese, casual use Mandarin, vague memories of Latin and hopefully some Sumerian at my fingers I would like to think I’ll have some concepts to work from.

But I want to see if I can stretch the limits to the way we do it. Something thatdiffers from the way other languages are in a way that is thought provoking. As most of the cultures in my fiction that would need new languages would be nonhuman, it should allow for a truely alien perspective.
