Dave is doing better every day
I met my revenue and profit targets in January this year. I was actually $460 away from my revenue target in December, but a target is a target after all.
Now I’m trying to figure out a reasonable revenue target in FY2010. But based one the economy, I think the goal name needs to changed to “Don’t go broke in 2010”.

Dave is doing better every day
I’ve been putting in a lot of hours lately, both in my pro bono work on standards as well as my paying consulting. The dark side of this coin is that I’m not working on my personal goals or writing much.
But rather than dwell on the negative, I’ll comment on the happy byproduct of this work boom. I am making great progress on my goal to hit the revenue target for FY2009 early. At this point, I’m about one month ahead in both consulting and teaching. That means I don’t need to work the entire month of July, and I’ll still be on track for the year.
Of course, I’ll work it anyway. My customers need support, after all, which is why I’m working so much in June. Which means I’ll be at least a month ahead at the end of July as well. In fact if I keep up my current pace, I’ll hit my revenue target by the end of the calendar year!
Sooner or later, there will be a break in this flow. That’s when I’ll get caught up on my personal stuff.

All I need to do is hit it.
I have a target for total revenue, as well as a separate target for revenue from teaching and from products.
Right now I have 40% of my revenue target in backlog for consulting, but I need to get moving on teaching and products if I’m going to hit those targets early in FY09.

of course, I’ll need to come up with a target, first…
