learn to skank

So fact is. I can’t skank. (And if you watch videos on YouTube, nobody else can either.) But I am practicing! Practicing like a… Practicer. I am practicing so much that it hurts. (Which really doesn’t take long when you’re fat.) SOMEDAY I WILL DANCE LIKE A REAL RUDE BOY!

But seriously. Stop it with the “IT’S EASY”s. Because it’s not. And stop making videos of five people giggling hopping around like jack-asses and titling it “How to Skank”. They’re no help.

I’m going to a ska concert, so I should learn quickly!

It dosnt seem to matter how many shows I go to or how many tutorials I read skanking and me dont mix too well…I tend to end up looking like a dying octopus. But I am going to be able to do it when RBF and Streetlight are up in Anaheim..I hope so anyway.

Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, and Streetlight Manifesto are playing in my town in a few days, I can’t wait, I haven’t skanked in a long time.

definitly a lot of fun

Skankn’ is the best way to dance. Nothing is quite as cool as skankn’ to ska.

pretty easy really, and great fun [if you don’t mind looking like a bit of a tit…]

clench your fists into balls and swing your arms back and forth in time to the music
then with your legs…it’s kind of a mix of the can can [but bending ze knees], skipping and running. when your left arm is forward, your right leg should be up…
whichever leg is forward should be on beats 2 and 4 [the offbeats, fitting with ska being on the offbeat. if you can’t tell which is beats 2 and 4, listen to what the guitar is doing and that should help you out!]

My first ska show was at this pretty big ska festival, Skappleton. Seeing over 50 people skank at once definately helped with my technique. It also showed me many different varitaions. Ska rocks!
