It was fascinating to watch! 4 years ago
I saw someone blowing glass at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN. It was a lot of fun to watch. Dollywood is a fun place too if you’ve never been! 4 years ago
Check in your area for glass studios. They usually have open house events where one can observe glass blowing. Sometimes you can even just drop by to watch people blow. Give the glass studio a call once you’ve found them and ask them about opportunities to watch glass blowers.
If you’re in the San Jose area you can drop by the Bay Area Glass Institute (BAGI) to see people blow glass. There’s also Holy City Glass in the Santa Cruz mountains above Los Gatos and San Francisco has Public Glass, but I’m not sure if either allow you to drop in to watch.
The picture I’ve added is of Karen Willenbrink-Johnsen at BAGI in February of 2004. This is near the end of her work on a piece that had one dog doing a handstand holding a flaming hoop on it’s hind paws with another dog jumping through that. It was an amazing piece.
My wife is a glass artist, so I’ve seen a lot of glass blowing. Once you get past the basics it is extremely interesting to see glass masters blowing. Some of the stuff they do is unbelievable. 5 years ago
