This trackball… I didn’t like it at first, it’s sometimes hard to position the cursor where I want it. But, I find my hand is less stiff after using it, than after using my mouse. Which is funny, because I didn’t even notice my hand got stiff after using the mouse until I started using the trackball regularly.

I think I will keep it up.

    So far I’ve:

    1) Made a conscious effort to keep my wrists (especially my left one) off the desk when I type, as per Danny’s suggestion. Ever since I’ve been doing this the tingling in my left hand has quite nearly disappeared!

I’m currently in the process of:

    2) Making sure to sit upright while at a computer, and not slouch. Kathi pointed out that I do this in class a lot.
    3) Getting used to using a trackball. I got a used one for $13 the other day and am giving it a try. I’m not sure how much of a problem using a traditional mouse is though so this is just an experiment.

    In the near future:

    4) Read the book on RSI Danny lent me. Apply what I learn from it to my lifestyle.
    5) Learn how to use a Kinesis (super-ergonomic) keyboard. Danny swears by them and is willing to let me borrow one of his.
    6) Consult my doctor. I’m bad at doing this but the wrist-tingling thing is really something I should ask about.
