Katrina Goering is adventuring in Chicago.
It has come to my attention that film could be something very worth my time. Unfortunately, my college has no film major, minor, or classes at all. I’m considering transferring someday to a school I can develop this interest at, but first, I’d at least like to get the ball rolling.
The club would work on publicize basic special campus events and random goings-on. I would want to make something for my school (Augustana College) along the lines of a video campus tour. One of my friends does mountain biking, and I’d see if he’d help. Wear a camera on his head and bike around campus or something. =)
I have a friend who said that our paintball team would love to have a video covering one of their tournaments.
Maybe advertising for Greek life. I’m not a fan, but it’d be something to do to get monetary support and publicity.
There are tons of clubs and events on campus that go on unnoticed, and the point would be to do what we can to get the word out with film. I guess it’d be kind of a news-crew.
Weekly meetings might watch a documentary or indie film as part of every meeting. Optional, probably. The club would be about organizing people interested in film together so we can work on projects around campus, indulging interests in the movie world, and maybe teaming together to make a creative piece.
I’m not sure if I can do it, though. I think it’d be a mess. Pretty much everyone who’s interested in film just has their own idea of making something too big and costly to represent themselves. I’m afraid people would be too controlling, and argue for their own ideas instead of working together as a team. It’d be sweet to find someone who really knows what they’re talking about. I’m not sure if I’m staying next year or not, but I plan on trying film-y things out over the summer as much as I can. If the club starts next year, I could be that go-to person.
I would like the club to be more for on-campus service-ish projects, as opposed to a utility for creative projects. Sort of a “Look! Film-kids have opportunities everywhere!” type of thing.
Now, it’s time to network. Use my resources, join new clubs, and get the word out. All while balancing a full class schedule. Eeek!
