vickxy is getting back to it
A few day’s before christmas me and few friends make this, but now none of us want to eat it! Does 3 floors count as a mansion?
How I did it: Gathered the 4 gingerbread house kits last Thanksgiving/Christmas. Then I had one for Halloween, and stored candies. Sadly most of the candy went bad or hardened. Definitely hoping to do this again sometime and to do it with homemade gingerbread. My niece came over and helped me, we did a long house at right angles joined by our version of a foyer. My other niece from Alabama came over and did a Christmas tree made out of spare gingerbread parts in front of our gingerbread mansion. It was great fun-I loved our leaning Christmas tree Pisa from last year when the others did their own gingerbread houses. I think the mansion looks pretty good for how flimsy the kits ended up being. Definitely a thing to do again!
Lessons & tips: Do your own icing, the premade stuff is crap.
Resources: The world wide web holds mysterious tips that thrill and give me many ideas.
Picture below shows the mansion with a gingerbread tree in front!

I saw a bunch of gingerbread kits at Walgreens for half price, that means $5 a set rather than $10. Then I could just do a double decker sort of idea or a split level of sorts gingerbread mansion. Still have all the candy I’ve been saving for this project.
On a plus note, my nieces and I did the gingerbread houses at Thanksgiving. My oldest niece did a picture perfect one, that is actually still pretty close to what it looked like at her house. Her friend did one that I think she ate right away and my other niece did a University of Auburn gingerbread house. I ended up doing a gingerbread tree that my younger niece chipped in with me on. It ended up becoming the leaning gingerbread tree but had alot of fun doing it. We got to be silly and being silly is very important!
**The Walgreens gingerbread houses were $2.49! I bought 4 kits. Someone threw a fit when I talked about doing it tonight so this is moved to working on it New Years Day. I think I’ll be able to talk to my niece before that and see if they want to have the final product to eat or something otherwise it’ll go in the trash as I’m informed it’ll just be an ant magnet…. Sheesh!

Newest news is that we are doing gingerbread houses on Thanksgiving. I have my extra stuff to do my mansion, along with various strange candies.
Here’s to hoping I’ll be struck with loads of inspiration and the mansion will emerge from my crazy designing mad hands on Thanksgiving afternoon/night!

possibly do this Sunday or Monday, so it’s New Year’s Eve/Day. Especially as I do not have the interest in getting drunk or plastered. I refound my recipe for it, now I’ll start sketching my grand ideas. I’ll keep it simple, just go for mansion not anything to grandeurish.

I’m not talking about those little gingerbread house kits you see at the stores either. I’m talking mansion here, huge house, huge mansion idea. I think I found a recipe that will work that is gingerbread. Where it currently is, is definitely a good question! I can use that cookie dough by Pillsbury as someone else did for their haunted mansion idea. Still working out kinks….
Maybe I’ll do this Christmas Eve…that way I’m not begging to open a present or two….or three…

I thought of doing a version of this with my students around Christmas time and just seeing if I could make it work. However, perhaps the icing and candy factor would make this…nah quite impossible.
Yet…a part of me thinks it might work…maybe on an early release day..it’s only a half hour…how bad…
Could be quite bad, could be quite good. Maybe I’ll flip and not give them real food but display candies, and have them do a coloring exercise, that they involves describing their house ideas. That might work…
If not, I have a very long break and hopefully could do it alone or on my own anyhow. Must start preparing and have a folder for it…organization..yes..might work.
muahaha my mad mind is at work! ((at last))

I so am a slacker when it comes to making something. I was all gung-ho and then just…brain farted!
So now, this goal is looking like a possible next Christmas goal to be fulfilled. I’m not giving up though. It’s just on hold right now…

I was going to do this over Winter break, even bought some candy to work with. No gingerbread house. Procrastination I do well at. Maybe once I slack off at second job again I’ll just do it during week and shove it in oven to keep safe from aggravating ants.

Ok, I’ve been researching online, seelng what for example others view as a mansion. Go to Google.com and type in mansion under Images. Yeah, uhhuh, so. I got the splendid idea for the cool looking I believe the style tower is Tudor(?) turret thing, to use an icecream cone, the base will be the gingerbread…currently trying to figure how that could work. I’m thinking about different rooftops as well. I’ve seen everything from sliced almonds to sprinkles to icing. I’m kind of leaning towards getting gumdrops cutting them in half and coating the roof with the icing then trying to get these things to stay on. It would look awesome if it would stay. I really need to go look at candies and either buy a little experiment or just take pictures come back and let my evil mind take candy to a whole new level. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to join in. Even my insane mind needs help…muahahaha…((snort)). ;)

My plan is coming together!
I did a search during my break today at school and found some blueprints and instructions on how to create a haunted mansion. I’m going to modify mine quite a bit first though, so I need to sketch that and get the cardboard to cut the outlines. Also found a recipe for the gingerbread and the icing that will hold my mansion together. ((does a little dance)) Plus now I’m thinking about doing a little yard with it too. I found a cute recipe for mini mice with hershey’s kisses and I thought of a way to make a Christmas tree with candy. Must experiment soon!
