pay off my credit cards and throw them away

So I have TWO credit cards with reasonable sized debts on them. One I keep at home, and I’ve set up a payment plan to pay off. The other one I paid off and I keep in my wallet.

It made me a bit of a loose cannon. Whatever I wanted, there was the little credit card staring at me with it’s glossy eye, saying “go on. you can have that. i’ll get it for you. we’ll sort it out later.”

Well another TWO GRAND later, I’ve finally given that thing to my boyfriend for safekeeping. I have to ask his permission to get it out, state what I’m using it for, he’ll approve or deny. And he is harsh.

Maybe this is it!

Which seems like a pretty insurmountable figure to me. I do pay off about $500 a month though. One thing I should be doing, is giving them to my boyfriend so I can’t put any more on them.
Actually, that will be my mini-goal for this afternoon.

Yahhooo! They are both paid off, cut up and thrown away! I finally managed to get statements and had a loan approved from my bank to clear both of them. They are both now cancelled, and finished and no more. Finito! Fine!
The amount I owe my bank now is a bit scary, but at least it’s manageable interest, it’s set with regular payments coming directly out of my wage, and it’s with my bank who I love and not 2 evil credit card companies.

I HAVE NOW LEARNED MY LESSON: NO CREDIT CARDS POUR MOI!

It feels so good, so good :-)

It’s feeling like I’ll never get these cards paid off. I’m resisting to the death any suggestion of getting an Australian credit card, as I don’t want to add to the debt. I think this month or next i will talk to my bank about getting a loan to cover all the credit cards, so at least I’m only paying one set of interest.

Being broke is so depressing. Does anyone have any tips to help me? (Or cheers to cheer me up??!)

And they’re in the UK and I’m in Australia, so I’m paying pounds off in dollars which is taking ages!

1 credit card is 2/3 paid off, hoorah!
