How I did it: I simply went on their website www.amnesty.org.uk. Being under 18, I was entitled to a youth membership, which is £5 a year direct debit, and every two months I will receive a magazine from Amnesty which will keep me informed about situations around the world. You can also join by post, but joining online is ridiculously fast and easy.
Also, they have thrown in a free t-shirt. That's nice of them. Read how I did it… 2 years ago

How I did it: Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on one's perspective, I have become a victim of attempted identity theft. Being 'mature' I am learning about life in this internet world bit by bit...and naively too. I forgot that there are 'bad guys' still alive and thriving in our world, and right here in America's heartland! I am just another student of life. C'est la vie! Read how I did it… 3 years ago

As a current member of the global community of Amnesty International, I long to meet like-minded people who have “Justice” written on their hears. My goal is to find a local group and get involved. It’s lonely writing letters solo. 3 years ago

i’ve been planning to do this for ages..i just kept putting it off for another day..but lately i’ve felt so infuriated and depressed at the world’s injustices i knew i had to do something, however small. and ok, it isn’t gonna magically eradicate the whole world’s problems. the world will never be a utopia. but at the same time, i think it’s very dangerous to society to hold the idea that you are completely powerless as an individual, it is for this exact reason, combined with comfortable ignorance/inaction, that there is so much injustice in the world. it’s jsut like the vote, one vote alone seems to have a negligable effect on the turnout, but if everyone in support of a certain party did that, the results would alter dramatically. ok, so what i’m basically saying is however seemingly insigificant your contribution to a cause, there is strength in numbers. ok this isn’t reqally a nice analogy, but i’m gonna use it to prove a point: if a ridiculously small political party headed by an evil genius with crazy ideologies can lead to the slaughter of 6 million jews and others, then surely the power of good can multiply equally in strength if supported by many individuals?? i’m no longer a hopeless idealist, i know it’s impossible to save the world or even a great proportion of it, but surely improving the quality of at least 1 or 2 people’s lives, by doing something as simple as joining a cause which is close to your heart and taking some small simple actions, is worth doing..is it not?? the power is in your hands! :) of course, there is also the ripple effect, where your actions may influence someone else to contribute to the power of good..for instance perhaps this will inspire a few people with this goal to decide to finally take the plunge, as i have been inspired by certain people i know and others i don’t, e.g angelina jolie and her humanitarian work. the important thing is that you join and help a cause of your freewill, so no-one should be co-erced or guilt-tripped into joining (other than by their own conscience, depending on which cause is closest to their heart) and that we all have a choice to support and prioritise individually whichever charities/causes we consider to be of most pressing concern to humanity 3 years ago

... that this things has been on my list.
I went over to the website just a second ago, and joined by monthly direct debit. It’s so easy to do, it made me wonder why I had this on my 43things so long. I’m looking forward to my welcome pack! 4 years ago

I already joined a german group called Com-mit to Partnership e.V. which works with NGOs in different countries and was founded by students.
Last summer they went to Guatemala to work there for about 6 weeks with a local organisation and I hope to be on the next team for the next trip.
In addition I’m going to join a local Amnesty group in my city in September… I’m excited and very curious about their work and projects and I’m really happy I’ll be able to help! (Even if it’d just be handing out flyer to the people :)) 4 years ago

I have to admit first and foremost, I have one problem with Amnesty International, and that is the death penalty. I am a huge supporter of the death penalty, and so far as I understand Amnesty International is vehemently opposed to this. I understand that the use of the death penalty in most oppressive nations is obviously prone to be used entirely unjustifiably and it is also obviously non-reversible, but still, theoretically I support it.
So for this reason I haven’t yet joined Amnesty. Otherwise I think it is the best organization on earth and human rights and justice are the most important issues that can ever be discussed, followed closely by the environment. So that said, I bought the Instant Karma : The Campaign to Save Darfur album (this is a link to iTunes). A start… We will see if I can let go of my death penalty issue long enough to join such a worthy cause. 4 years ago

I’ve been thinking about joining lately, but I’m not sure. I know they fight for human rights, but apart from that … I don’t really know what I’d have to do. 5 years ago

both the larger organization and my school’s Amnesty International club. I put off actually joining for such a long time because I didn’t have a job to make the monthly donation (nor a credit card) and now I have both. Hence: joining.
