I used to bite my finger nails a LOT – it was embarrassing to show my fingers during dates, with friends, at work, etc. Plus it’s not good hygienically. Since I was about 12 I’ve tried to fight it. I’ve noticed I do it most when I’m on the computer at night, specifically when I’m gaming.
Recently I gave away my gaming computer and my biting has nearly stopped, but I still catch myself doing it from time to time. I try to keep clippers and a file by my bed/computer now as well. I’ve also just set another goal to be in bed by midnight and hope it will help me completely stop the biting.

I have read about all your success stories and now im really inspired to do it too. I have been biting my nails since i was a little kid, and have tried a lot of different things, but this time hopefully it will work.

I bought a pack of gum and every time I felt the urge to bite my fingernails, I chew on gum. It helps a lot. My fingernails are starting to grow and hopefully when it does grow, I will no longer bite on them anymore.

Yucky, yucky
I don’t know how I’m ever going to make this one happen. I’ve tried the nasty-tasting stuff. I eat it anyway. I’ve tried getting beautiful manicures. I scrape the polish off with my teeth on purpose. I’ve tried the spicy-hot-pepper-juice thing. I grew up on Cajun food, so that’s no good. I’ve tried gloves, but I have to actually get things done at home and if I wear gloves that are thin enough to let me do work, I CHEW THROUGH THEM! I’ve even gotten so desperate that I’ve tried hypnosis. I definitely felt more relaxed but I chewed my nails to bits when I watched 24 later that night. Is there a solution to this? I’m determined to stop biting my nails by the time that I turn 35 years old on February 7, 2017.

Well… its been 2 weeks since I decided to stop biting my nails.. and I only have the urge when I am reading a book. I wouldn’t say I am cured yet.. I need to come up with an idea to not bite them when I am reading..
Any ideas?

Jensom is figuring things out.
I don’t think I can remember a time when I haven’t bitten my fingernails. They’re so low now, I can barely open anything, and it’s frustrating me to pieces. This is my first ever goal on here, and I figured it was a good place to start. =]

I stop biting all of my nails except for my thumbnails on a normal day, but as soon as I go to the movies (and finish my popcorn,) they’re all gone. It’s sad, and it’s like breaking a totally different habit. The coating I put on my nails (which tastes terrible) is easy to wear on a normal day, but if I tried to eat popcorn with it on, I’d have sour popcorn and a sick stomach by the end of it. Ehh.

I’ve been biting my nails for as long as I can remember, even as a little kid. My doctor says that it may be an anxiety habit, but i needs to stop. I bit my nails all the way down to the quick, and sometimes even further than that. So now I shall look up ways to try and quit, and hopefully I shall succeed!
