Kickstarting my eating habits: Day 1 1 month ago

As of yesterday I’ve planned out a close-to-perfectly-balanced meal plan using daily plate, and bought the necessary bits for it. It’s not ideal, and I’ve only got one day planned, but can at least repeat that plan until I get more of a plan worked out, and I think now that I’m tackling this one head on, I should be able to stay in the boundaries I’ve set for myself.

For now:

Breakfast
- One serving Quaker Maple & Brown Sugar instant oats with 1/4 cup slivered almonds

Lunch: 1 Ham & Cheese muffin (yves veggie ham, cheddar cheese and an english muffin)

Dinner: 3 cups Ziggy’s Cheese Tortellini, 1/2 cup Olivieri Four Cheese Pasta Sauce, and 4 slices worth of cheese.

Snacks: 1 cup of grapes, 750 ml True Blue Wild Blueberry Juice

This’ll give me:
2,335 Calories ((120% of my recommended, but that’s fine, as I’ll be exercising as well)

110% Recommended Fat
99.6% Recommended Cholesterol
105% Recommended Sodium
113% Recommended Carbs
plus 117 g sugars, 93g protein and 14g fiber.

I look forward to seeing how I feel after a few days of this.

Regular Breakfasts 10 months ago

I’ve started having a regular 8:00 breakfast every weekday. It’s just quaker instant oats right now, but it’s a step twoards structuring my eating habits to try to improve them.

Found a new equation 17 months ago

From trying to weigh myself each morning, I’ve come to a new discovery that hopefully will help motivate me to change my ways: Every time I eat a Pizza, I gain half a pound!

Time to cut ‘em out again, and hopefully this time it will stick better.

I think the madness that comes from moving has helped our eating habits slide, but hopefully once we get installed in our new place, we can settle into a better diet, but that said: there’s no time like the present!

Thank you Daily Plate 18 months ago

I’ve been back on Daily Plate for 3 days, and already notice a tremendous difference. In part, I’m thinking about what I’m eating. I think subconsciously I’m doing a bit of a tally perhaps. I’m actually way UNDER today, and trying to figure out what to stuff in my maw so I don’t ricochet from too much to too little and back again.

Lousy eating lately 18 months ago

After finishing the cleanse, we’ve been eating atrociously! Way too much pizza, and generally too much everything. I’ve put back on half the weight that I lost, and am REALLY feeling it during Kung Fu.

Generally, I’ve been feeling so good about things lately, and I’m going to try to translate that positivity into better eating habits again. At our new place, one of our CoHousing neighbours is a great vegetarian chef who writes cookbooks… maybe we can get her to give us a few pointers. There’s also a nutritionist living there, who I’m planning on making an appointment with!

Wild Rose: Day nine (er... eight and a half) 20 months ago

After a long (and great) babysitting, and Aimée getting home exhausted we have agreed: the cleanse is over. It was a good experience, and I’m glad I did it, but I’m also not going to regret the two wheels of doom that are wending their way to our house as I write (mmm… cheesy bready goodness).

I think I’m going to continue to eat more fruit (especially Asian pears!) and try to eat better, and it will be interesting to see if the deep tissue cleanse part (which is supposed to happen in the first half of the cleanse) has had an effect.

But tonight: TNG and Pizza will do just fine.

Wild Rose Cleanse: Halfway! 20 months ago

End of day 6, and I’m feeling fairly good. Definitely hungry for a good part of the day, but snacks have done well.

I AM looking forward to getting back to most of the “dodgy” foods I eat, but think I’ll try to cut out the most sugary: stay off pop, desserts, and candy for longer (maybe through the Easter season?)

Wild Rose Cleanse: Day 5 20 months ago

Just starting Day 5.

I’m slowly adding calories each day (which is good: I started out eating less than half what my daily calories should be), and feeling better. Tuesday evening I was very weak and spacey (I had to leave Kung Fu after 20 minutes).

While this isn’t feeling sustainable at present, it’s providing a great opportunity for me to find alternate sources of calories! I’m eating more fruits, nuts and veggies than I have in a long long time, and enjoying it. I’m so addicted to dairy & carbs (Pizza as a mainstay). I’ll probably insert them back into my life, but hopefully with a bit more balance. And I might try to keep the refined sugars out for a while longer.

Wild Rose: Day Two 21 months ago

Just starting my second day of the Wild Rose cleanse. Both Aimée (who started a day earlier than me) and I found our brains sort of muddled on the first day, but that seems to get better.

It’s amazing realizing how much sugar, cheese, and carbs I put into my body. Switching to more vegetables, asian pears, almonds and eggs is interesting so far. My main problem at the moment is getting enough calories into my body. Tomorrow will be the first real test: Kung Fu practice on day 3.

30 Days 21 months ago

Daily plate for 30 days. Still yo-yoing in terms of calories, but at least I’m aware of it now!

We’re almost done the starchy foods in the house, and so will start the Wild Rose cleanse ASAP.
