My favorite job ever was as a seasonal at the state natural area in my hometown. I did that for three summers in the early 1990s. It was very physically demanding with tasks such as maintaining hiking trails, carrying lumber and concrete into the backcountry for footbridges, picking up litter, cleaning backcountry outhouses, mowing, etc. Then on weekends, I’d staff the visitor center. It was the only job I’ve ever had where I’d lie down on Sunday night, looking forward to Monday morning. The pay? A staggering $5.80 per hour. 3 months ago

I rarely sleep past sunrise. I’ve always been an early riser, and as I’ve gotten older, my mornings get earlier. It isn’t unusual for me to be up and about by 4:30am, even on a weekend. 3 months ago

A woman once told me that I’m the most un-Leo-like Leo she’s ever met. On the surface, I’m more easy going than the average person. But here’s my secret obsession: I HAVE to be in control. 3 months ago

I may hold the distinction of being the only student at UT to ever faint in English 102. I had ALMOST fainted once before that—in high school science class when the teacher was talking about childbirth. I broke out in a cold sweat and almost went out, but I tuned out what was being said and regained my composure.
In English 102, I wasn’t so lucky. We were reading “Born on the Fourth of July”—a graphic scene describing an enema. I was at the back of the class and started getting very woozy. The last thing I remember is reaching for the crank on the window. Then I heard the instructor calling my name. I opened my eyes and found that I was leaning out the side of my desk with my hand on the floor.
The instructor called off class, and he and another student walked me to the infirmary. I just pretended it was a blood sugar thing. 7 months ago

I didn’t go to my prom. I was such a shy kid that the whole idea sounded mortifying. A girl I knew even called me and with a shaky voice asked me to go, and I turned her down, just because I couldn’t bear the thought of putting myself through that. 8 months ago

Many friends and family members over the years have assumed that, since I’m a backpacker, I dream of hiking the Appalachian Trail. Not true. It HAS tickled my imagination once or twice, but I don’t think it would ever be a real goal. Why? Because there are lots of other things I like to do that I wouldn’t want to give up for 5-6 months. 8 months ago

The thought of working 30 years in the same job terrifies me—always has. I’ve been eight years at my current job (which doubles my previous record), and I’ve begun to look at other options, even though I like my job. 8 months ago

She died in 1992 when my daughter was only a few months old. She was very sick but I know she was happy to hold her first great granddaughter.
I miss her so much. I think about her alot. I know she would be proud of all three of her granddaughters if she was alive. 11 months ago

the first time and then I got them pierced another time, maybe a year later. Then I got one ear pierced a third time but the hole grew in when I took the starter earring out when I was sick. I almost never wear anything in the top hole now but I wear diamond earrings in the first one since Christmas. 11 months ago

When I was going through all the sh*t with my ex husband, I didn’t think I’d make it through alive. Depression was awful. I didn’t think I would be able to support myself. And here I am. Managing without him! Ha! And it is empowering!! 11 months ago

Started off in the file room at 17 and within a few months I was at a desk. Not the job I would have chosen for myself (looking back) but I do okay at it and make decent money. Wish I had finished college though and done something else! 11 months ago

Over the years I’ve collected things that you find you might need…so all kinds of people come to me and say, I hear you might have ____. Not always, but alot of times, I do! 14 months ago

I will occasionally hide from people I don’t want to speak with. Not that I’m anticipating anything negative. I just sorely hate getting trapped in long conversations. Last night at my office, for instance, I had finished a meeting and was heading to my car when I noticed a group from a separate meeting huddled in conversation in the parking lot. I knew the people, and I knew that I wouldn’t get past them with just a quick hello. So, I ducked in the dark behind the building until I saw them all drive away. 16 months ago

In high school and college, I used to daydream about moving to the Pacific Northwest to work with the U.S. Forest Service. In fact, I think that daydream kept me from dropping out more than once. 16 months ago

I’m an INFP on the Myers-Briggs personality test, very strong on the I (introverted), somewhat strong on the N (iNtuitive) and pretty weak on the F (feeling) and P (perceiving). In fact, I have sometimes scored an INTJ – weakly on the thinking and judging – depending on the timing of the exam. 16 months ago

I’m drawn to hobbies. Some stick. Some don’t. At various points in my life, I’ve laid the foundation for hobbies I was convinced I wanted to pursue but then lost interest before I even got started. Case in point: shortwave radio. A friend had shared his experiences as a ham operator, and it sounded like something I’d love. I bought the study guide at Radio Shack but never even bothered to read it. I’ve had similar experiences with fly-tying and bow-hunting. 16 months ago
