learn to love camping

Had an awesome camping trip with my family this week – perhaps the key to enjoying camping is to know a little bit about how to camp and to love the company a lot?? Also having the right gear helps….

This is definitely a work in progress. I had horrid outdoor experiences as a kid, and definitely HATE bugs, (ESPECIALLY blackflies!!!), but recognize that being outdoors is a very rejuvenating and refreshing experience. Thanks to the example set by my daughter’s Guides/Pathfinders/Rangers leader (Thanks Terri!!) I joined up as a Guider for Girl Guides, partly to send time with my girls and partly because it was a safe, structured way to learn to love the outdoors. Through Guiding I have learned basic camping and ways to enjoy the outdoors. As well, I took a Wilderness & Remote First Aid course this spring (AWESOME course, by the way – thank Blair (http://www.wrfa.ca/wilderness_and_remote_first_aid.htm) for making it so easy to learn so well and have fun at the same time!!) and now feel like I can be in the outdoors with some sense of security that I can plan the activity safely and would have a basic idea of what to do if something went wrong.

Next step – combining kayaking (another new venture) and camping…..
