We ripped up the carpet in the living room, dining room and also small “guest” bedroom upstairs (bonus!). The house looks bigger and seems much CLEANER than before. That carpet was gross. We also ditched the classic 1960’s ‘draperies’ and added some more breathing room by doing that. Definitely worth doing! Cross another one off the list! :-)
Well, I have the living room done – now I have to move the gigantic entertainment center (which I hate) and get the carpet out from under there and also do the dining room. The DR is tricky as the plywood wall still exists (to separate the cats – long story) so that is a totally separate room now. Hopefully it will get done this weekend so we can haul the nasty carpet to the dump on Saturday or Sunday. Then onto more goals!
Hard work, but worth it! I suggest getting a sharp carpet knife, and cutting the carpet into two foot wide strips as you rip it up, so that you can then roll those up like a sleeping bag and tie with twine, making it easier to dispose of the carpet and underlying pad. Watch out for tacks and staples! I had bloody knuckles after I did it.
