After being shut for the holidays, the yarn store will open tomorrow. Need no new yarn, but she’ll be able to help me because I’m stuck on my hat. After getting some help, I’ll be able to keep progressing. 4 months ago

kathybaconSo, I knitted a scarf.

Loved it. My goal at this point in my knitting life is to take on projects which help me acquire new skills. I was told that the order should be: first knit a scarf, then a hat, then mittens, then a sweater, then socks. I know this is just a suggestion but it made sense to me since it will allow me to learn skills that build on one another.

I took a 1-hour hat workshop at a knitting store downtown. It taught me how to knit in the round and decrease, and I’ve now set out on my basic hat project.

Wish me luck, pls! 4 months ago

I made a super cute hat from the first Stitch and Bitch book. It’s the first hat pattern in there. Super easy and quick. 5 months ago

DoctorTeethA Tale of Two Hats

I knitted two hats in the past 10 days, each based on the same pattern. The first hat I used an altered pattern that I thought would be better for my larger-than-average head; it turned out to be slightly too big. The second hat I used the pattern precisely with no deviations; it turned out to be slightly too small. I hope to make a third hat that is, like all of Baby Bear’s things, just right. And it looks like I might need to combine the yarn that’s left over from the two other projects, so good luck to me for my first combined-colour project… 13 months ago

DoctorTeethSecond Knitting Project

Now that my scarf is done I needed to start something else to keep my hand in, and I decided to make myself a hat, which is something I was sorely missing this winter. I decided to add a little something to it, though, and that is: using gauge. If you don’t know what gauge is, it’s basically knitting math that shows you how many stitches you need for X number of inches. It’s a pain in the ass, but now that I’ve figured out my gauge, I think I can alter the hat pattern slightly and make sure it fits my head. Wish me luck; if I mess it up I have another skein of wool to make another hat right after! 13 months ago
