This was a good thing to do, and also a not-very-helpful thing to do.
I found the idea of having to face a counselor with info on how I met my goals the good part. It spurred me to be better about exercise, if not diet.
However, he wasn’t all that helpful with questions I had. He kept telling me that he was certified as a diabetic coach, but never offered me any information. He also said several times he could help me with glucose information, but never offered it.
So, at the end of the 8 weeks, he asked me if I wanted the association to continue, this time on a monthly basis. I said no.

It turns out he’s a diabetic coach, and will help me understand the range of blood sugar measurements that are normal.
He’s already helped me with the weight loss thing. 8 weeks of having to report to someone every week is really paying off. I hate deadlines, but I love deadlines. You know what I mean?

We missed last week because I was in L.A. in an apartment that doesn’t promote cell phone usage. (I know…what’s up with that?)
He was very encouraging. I was down because I couldn’t get information about my latest lab tests, so we made three goals for next week:
1) Find out what’s happening with the lab test, what’s wrong with it.
2) Walk more this week.
3) See all the movies that are on the Best Picture list before the Oscars on Sunday.
He laughed when I told him the 3rd goal.

under “lose weight.”
I “met” with my health coach again a few minutes ago. This is our 3rd time talking, officially. The first time was just an introduction to each other.
These are telephonic conversations, lasting about 10 minutes each. He always starts by asking 4 questions:
1. On a scale of 1 to 10, how do you feel today?
2. What’s a phrase that would describe how you feel?
3. On a scale of 1 to 10, how well do you feel that you’ve tended to your health.
4. What’s your current weight.
His goal is decreased cholesterol. My goal is to lose weight, although, of course, I want to generally improve my health. Of course.
So far, I think this is really working.
