Took me almost exactly 2 years and my teeth are exactly how I’d hoped. I was originally told 36 months, but I like to think that my dedication to wearing my aligners the required time every day helped speed up the process! My teeth are straight for the first time in my life. I’m not self-conscious, I don’t smile with my mouth closed, I don’t feel like a chipmunk. The first couple of days I had them off, I kept smiling at myself in the mirror :P
One negative thing, when my teeth were getting moved, one of them got moved right through my gums. So now my root is severely exposed and I have to get a gum graft to get it fixed or my tooth will eventually become weakened and fall out. Note that this isn’t covered by most dental insurance because it’s considered plastic surgery or cosmetic. And it’s expensive! So that’s a bummer.
But other than that, I’m thrilled with my teeth. And the cost was well worth it. In a few years, I’ll have forgotten about the money completely and will still have a nice smile. I wish I had before and after pics to show off. :D
PS: For those wondering, the total cost for my braces was 8500. Insurance covered some, but I got laid off shortly after treatment began, so I’ve ended up paying about 6k out of pocket, spread over 36 months. I’ve done some comparing and I know that this seems to be more expensive than other people have paid. However, other people have also not been happy with their outcomes and I’m thrilled with mine. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. I told my doc it was the best investment I’ve made, and I meant it.
Not sure if this is allowed, but if you’re in the L.A. area, I went to this doctor http://www.aeortho.com/ Very professional place, clean, friendly, all around good experience.

Costly matter
So basically my dental plan doesn’t cover othodontia unless it’s a deformity. My dentist won’t cosign on my harebrained scheme so I’m going to have to cough up the dough eventually. Since I plan on moving soon, I’m pricing plans to see if it’ll be cheaper wherever I land.

I had been putting it off for so long, but news of my high school reunion spurred me to action. I totally forgot to ask about OrthoClear (which would have been nice if they really are cheaper) and my dentist said he doesn’t do I-braces. So I’ve had them for a couple months now and waiting to see some major change. I can definitely feel them pushing on my teeth. I’ve had to get some of those spaces made and it’s really not that big of a deal; you can’t even tell. My dentist said they take off like 0.02mm of enamel. I also have many of the little white bumps they put on your teeth to anchor them.

One of my students has these, or some other brand of the same thing. I hope that means I can get them locally! I have to ask where he got them.

I’d love to have straight teeth, maybe if I get a job with good insurance, I can afford it. Maybe.

Hey Guys, I’m going to try to document my progress on this website. Today is my first day wearing the invisalign braces. They don’t really hurt. Only a slight pressure on my lower teeth and almost no pressure on my upper teeth (which in a way concerns me). I have heard that invisalign is only for minor cases and it wouldn’t work well for really bad cases such as mine. I have an overbite (thumbsucker). I can fit an inch of my index in my mouth with my jaw closed. Its that bad.. Also I have minor crowding. I am praying that I did not spend $6500 for no reason. I found my orthodontist on the invisalign website. He is one of the elite doctors and received 2 stars, which means he’s done over a hundred cases. He says Invisalign will work as well as braces, but from all of these reviews and non perfect teeth experiences.. I’m a little scared.
Day 1
It feels a bit uncomfortable, but not too bad and I hate feeling pain. I hope these things work out for the best. My next appointment in in 2 weeks. I will be getting the attachments and my Ortho will show me how my teeth will move in time. My estimated time wearing the aligners is 15 months. I hope things go as planned.

got my invisalign a week ago to correct an overbite. total cost with insurance and a student discount came out to 2975. I have 600 left to pay. treatment is suppose to last 6 months/ 14 trays top and bottom (i hope). Big adjustment for me personally is eating fast to pop them back in and i am not a fast eater. and wax has become my best friend for those sharp edges

Be realistic
I’m finally done with my Invisalign. It took a year longer than they said it would and my teeth are not perfectly straight. After all the money and time they told me I couldn’t get perfect front teeth that were straight because it would make my gums uneven if we moved the teeth any more. So I had them sand down the tooth a bit to appear more even but they are not perfect at all. My teeth were perfectly straight a few years back but then they moved. Just be realistic here that they say anything is possible and then told me it isn’t. They also told me not everything is possible because of your parents genes. Oh please. Just want you all to realize it may not be perfectly as you imagine when you are done. But Invisalign is still way better than metal braces.
