Open a Savings Account 5 months ago

It’s true, everyone needs to save money. I need to do this more than ever. I want $500 in an account, linked to my checking account. I’m sick of overdrafting my account. I’m quite positive I have paid the salaries of at least half of my banks employees just in fees in the past year! NO MORE!!!

I’ve always just had a “spending account” – I’ve never actually worked on saving my money. I’m going to use the money I get from my tax returns to open a savings account, and try to add to it from each paycheck (even if it’s only a little at a time).

I still haven’t worked out how much I can afford to put in the savings account regularly, but I opened it with $500. I think the minimum I could put in is $100 a month. I need to send in a copy of a bill and a copy of my ID to the bank and it’ll be ready to go.

the new features on this site confuse me, yo. 13 months ago

anyways.
ING. =]

First I had to move up to arkansas and open a checking account, so that took me some time. Then I had to lollygag for awhile. And then I did ACTUALLY DID open it, but I forgot my PIN, which I needed to verify my account. So I basically let it set there for a good two whole months.

light bulb, figured out my PIN.

HAHA.

i made 5 cents in two months, awesomecakes.

Financial Responcibility 14 months ago

As a college student, I have been in debt and living paycheck to paycheck for three years. I finally paid off my credit card, and I have gotten a grant to cover this year’s tuition (less debt for graduation! yay) I finally have a little saved up, and after paying expensive San Francisco rent, I want to start saving up so I can move into a nicer place, and have a cushion in case I become unemployed… that kind of stuff.

finally got my lazy arse to the bank :)

i opened up a savings account & inputted 200 bucks, changed my chequing account to a student value account (this means no monthly fees & that i will NOT go nuts on transactions).

i also made sure that some $ will be taken automatically out of every paycheck & placed into my savings. ‘tis only a start, but i’m excited that i’m finally taking some action!

I opened a tax free ISA with a really good interest rate & I worked out that from the date it opened to the date I gt the letter saying it had opened I already made £8.00 in interest!
