i would love to learn how to speak portuguese
How to learn to speak Brazilian Portuguese!
How I did it: I started by downloading the Pimsleur lessons, making up silly conversations every day using my new skills, and getting them corrected by people I met on orkut and msn. After a while, with the help of google translator, I could chat with people that only knew portuguese. My love for their culture kept me going. Then I moved there for 6 months and it was only then I started understanding and speaking more fluently. I still cant understand books and films fully, but I know that day comes too. My interest in the language has only grown and Im hurrying slowly, without really putting in too much effort.
Lessons & tips: You'll only learn if you really want to.
Resources: Pimsleur lessons, google translator, orkut, msn, love.

My partner is Brazilian,He and his family speak portugeuse and i feel a lil wierd cause i dont have a clue what they are saying?
I dated a Brasilian from Goiania, Goais, BRASIL. So I know some words from him.
I also have his friend to talk to who lives in PA. We talk through texting and on facebok so if I get a Rosetta Stone or a program similar to that, I can practice with Douglas. It is very exciting and I’m glad that I have a native speaker to talk with.
I already know a lot of Spanish…I can start a conversation and read articles since I’ve dated some Mexicans who couldn’t speak English.
So, I think that Portuguese will be very easy for me to learn, since I took up Spanish in a snap.
I also plan on moving to Rio or Sao Paolo someday soon, possibly after grad-school or something.
I have started listening to Portuguese artists such as:
Jorge Ben Jor
MCs HC
Gal Costa
Banda Beijo
and even though they talk so fast, I can kind of understand them since some of their words are really similar to Spanish.

And that is as much as I know. I want to learn to so that when I go to samba in Caranival in Rio next year. I can actually speak. People, especially when I am samba dancing, assume that I am Brazilian and just start speaking to me in Portueges. So either way, I would like to learn the basics.
I’m in love with this language. When I hear it, I’m mesmerized. I’m hypnotized by the music with portuguese lyrics. When I hear samba, when I hear various singers, when I hear drums beating, when I hear bossa nova, axe, choro, etc. I’m drawn to anyone that speaks it…mostly because it’s smmmoooth. I ask them open-ended questions just to hear them speak the language. When I visited Brazil, I met this Brazilian girl, and everything she and more, how she said it….was poetry to me. It was over me, and I became hooked. Yes, it was a moment for me.
